Gordon Sweeney Obituary

Gordon W. Sweeney, 79, of Candlewood Road, Ipswich, died Tuesday, January 28, 2014 in the Ledgewood Rehabilitation Center, Beverly following his long illness. Born in Beverly April 8, 1934, son of the late Leonard N. and Caroline (Walker) Sweeney he was raised in Beverly and was a 1952 graduate of Beverly High School. Following high school he went to work as a carpenter, a skilled profession he worked until his retirement in 2007. Gordon enjoyed watching NASCAR races, the New England Patriots and the cases before Judge Judy. He is survived by four sons, Scott Sweeney and his wife Deborah of Ipswich, William Sweeney and his wife Colleen of Ipswich, David Sweeney and his wife Lisa of W. Newbury, Jeffrey Sweeney and his wife Bridget of Amesbury; a daughter, Lisa A. Thomas of Beverly; seven grandchildren, Dustin and Erin Sweeney, Sarah Milaschewski and Amy Thomas, Jennifer McIntyre, Matthew and Michael White; four great grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. He was the brother of the late Paul Sweeney formerly of Beverly and John Sweeney formerly of Ipswich. His funeral service will be held 11 am Tuesday, February 4, 2014 in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High St., Ipswich followed by interment in the New Highland Cemetery, Ipswich.
