Joan C. Frier

1951 - 2018

Mrs. Joan Joni Catherine (Cunningham) Frier, age 67, of Boxford, Massachusetts and Freedom, New Hampshire, passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2018. Joan was raised in Lynn and, after her marriage, moved to Boxford and raised her family there. Joan was the beloved wife of Gordon Stanley Frier with whom she shared 39 years of marriage. She was a daughter of the late James and Margaret (Ryan) Cunningham; the devoted mother of Meghan Stawasz and her husband, Nicholas, of Boxford, and Jill Frier of Ipswich; the cherished grandmother of Charlie and Katherine; the dear sister of Margaret DeTour of Lynn, James Cunningham of Alabama, Warren Cunningham of Hudson, Leo Cunningham of New York, Paul Cunningham of Hudson, and the late Patricia Bower; and a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. Born in Revere, she was educated in Lynn and graduated from Lynn Classical High School with the Class of 1968. She earned a Bachelors Degree in Office Administration from Salem State University in 1988. After retiring from Verizon, where she worked in various finance and administrative roles for many years, Joan went back to work for several years before retiring permanently. Joan enjoyed playing games with her family, walking with friends, listening to music, exploring new places, getting her hands on The New York Times bestsellers from the library, using her imagination playing pretend with her grandchildren, and being outside. She was full of energy, laughter, and had one of those smiles that made those around her smile. Arrangements are under the care of the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, Lynn.
