Joseph Griffin Obituary

Joseph James Griffin, Jr. of Middleton and Harrison, Maine | Joe ascended the stairway to heaven on July 15, 2018 following a courageous six week battle with a late diagnosis of stage IV lung cancer. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts to Joseph Griffin, Sr. and Helen McCarthy Griffin Doiron, Joe was the oldest of three children. He is survived by his mother, Helen, brother Daniel and wife Rita, sister Christine and husband Patrick Dowe. As well as nieces Brianne and Julie Griffin, Samantha and Mikayla Dowe and nephew Riley Dowe, sister-in-law Robin Brown and husband Emile Seymour; his wife and soulmate Pamela Brown, and children Joseph Henry and Geneva Dionne Griffin. He was predeceased by his father, Joseph Griffin, step-father Robert Doiron, and in-laws Robert and Theresa Brown. Meeting his wife when he was a teenager they never left each others side and kindled a forty-year love story that was made complete when Joe became a dad and was fondly known as Big Joe. He was the nucleus of his family and his world revolved around his children and their accomplishments. He was most proud of his sons hockey career and never missed a chance to stand behind the net waiting for his son to score a goal; cheering in the stands as his daughter won gold medals for figure skating, and watching them graduate from high school. Generous to a fault, Joe never wanted anything for himself and would give away the shirt on his back. He was always on the ready to help a friend, offer his wifes expertise to solve anyones problem with his phrase dont worry Ill have Pam take care of that and his children never left home without their dad saying need any money?. Always soft-spoken, kind, humble and grateful, Joe was happiest on the Shores of Long Lake in Harrison, Maine where he spent his last days with his wife and children. A celebration of life funeral Mass will be held at Saint Agnes Church, 22 Boston Street, Middleton, Massachusetts on July 21, 2018 at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private at the family cemetery in Groveton, New Hampshire. In lieu of flowers, to honor Joes memory and to fulfill his final wish for his children to graduate from college, donations can be made to: The Joseph and Geneva Griffin Scholarship Fund, c/o First Ipswich Bank, 107 High Street, Danvers, Massachusetts 01923. Joe taught me the ropes at Reynolds + Reynolds. He always made time for helping his teammates, and his caring and cheerful attitude towards his customers was genuine. Truly a good man through and through. My prayers and best wishes to his family. Rest easy old friend. Your work here is done....

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family! Joe used to drive me to Control Data Institute where he was my lab partner. I later introduced him to Reynolds and Reynolds where he was a stellar employee who cared about his customers and his company. He would truly give someone the shirt off his back. Heaven gained another angel! RIP my friend!

To the entire Griffin Family we send our sincere condolences. We are neighborhood friends of Joey (and Danny) back in the day when we all hung out together on Wallace Street in Somerville. Those were the good old days and we also had a sleepover at the family house in the "country" (Reading). It was fun but it only happened once - we were a group from Somerville afterall.

Our prayers go out to Pam and children, Helen, Danny and Christine and all of your families. May Joey rest in peace.

Pam, I am deeply saddened to hear of Joe's passing. He was a wonderful neighbor for many years. He was the quiet man at parties but I would stop him at the foot of your driveway and he would go on and on about his family. He loved you very much and was always so proud of his children. You and the kids are in my prayers! Sending my love!
