Nicholas Cappos Obituary

Nicholas D. Cappos, 56, husband of Ellin M. McSweeney of Bromfield Street, Newburyport, died Saturday, October 26, 2013 peacefully in his home with his family at his side, following his long illness. He was an amazing friend, husband and father who fought like a true champion. Born in Ipswich June 1, 1957, son of the late Arthur S. and Evelyn M. (Richmond) Cappos, he was raised in Ipswich, a 1975 graduate of Ipswich High School. As a young man under the guidance of his uncle Nic Gotses, he learned to be a clammer and became an amazing athlete. Throughout the years in addition to his clamming he was employed as a chef at several area restaurants. For the two years prior to his illness he was employed as a mental health aide at Baldpate Hospital, Groveland, a vocation he found to be very rewarding. At home Nick enjoyed cooking and caring for his family and friends. Anyone who knew Nick, knew that his wife and daughters were the light of his life. He had a great sense of humor, and could make anyone smile. He will long be remembered as the founder of "Ipswich Clam Wars". Nick attended the Byfield Parish Church. In addition to his wife Ellin, he is survived by two daughters, Lauren R.A. Cappos of Charlotte, NC and Leah N. Cappos of Rowley; their mother Karen Cappos of Charlotte, NC, his step mother Connie Cappos of Danvers, a step-daughter, Allison Brouillette of Newbury; a step-son, Jasen Brouillette of FL; step-grandchildren, Brendon, Nicholas and Noah Brouillette of Florida, two brothers, Michael W. Cappos and his wife Margaret of Peabody and Stephen A. Cappos and his wife Cynthia of Oxford; five nephews, Drew and Lee Cappos both of Oxford, Dylan and Troy Cappos both of Peabody and Nathan White of Groveland; special aunt, Susie White of Groveland and her son Laurence; great-aunt Katherine Nicholopoulos of Peabody and a large extended family and network of friends here and in Oxford England. Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday, October 30th at Whittier-Porter Funeral Home 6 High St. at 4 pm. His funeral service will be held immediately following at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Mass. General Cancer Center, 102 Endicott St., Danvers, MA 01923 and or VNA Care Network & Hospice, 5 Federal St.., Danvers, MA 01923.
