Thomas Burton Obituary

Thomas E. Burton, 76, husband of Susan K. Burton, of Edge Street, Ipswich, died Thursday June 14, 2018 in the Kaplan Family Hospice in Danvers. Born in Toledo, Ohio on March 30, 1942, he was one of the nine children of the late Claude E. and Betty J. (Merritt) Burton. Thomas was raised in Toledo, a graduate of Toledo Public Schools and the University of Toledo. He served an enlistment in the Army serving in Puerto Rico at the time of the Cuban Crisis. Married in Ohio in 1967, the Burtons lived in Michigan for the next four years, making Edge Street their home in 1970. Tom was employed as the Fiscal Manger in the Woburn office of Learning Innovations, Division of WestEd of California. He retired June 1 of this year after twenty-two years of service. He worked well past retirement because he loved his job and more importantly he loved the people he worked with. Tom enjoyed boating and fishing the local waters with his family and friends. He was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and was an avid Patriots fan. He was looking forward to spending time with his Grandson this summer. In addition to his wife Susan of fifty-one years he is survived by a son, Richard M. Burton, a daughter, Jennifer J. Blaisdell and grandson, Thomas Blaisdell, both of South Berwick, Maine; two brothers, Timothy Pinney and William E. Burton; three sisters, Cathy Welliver, Tammy Plautz, and Lori Redman. He also has many nephews, nieces and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers Claude Burton and Fred Burton and one sister, Janet Martin. All funeral arrangements were private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his name may be made to Ipswich Caring, P.O. Box 584, Ipswich, MA 01938 and or the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
