SUKHDEV SINGH DHILLON
October 10, 1935 – October 15, 2014
Passion. Determination. Strength. Generosity. These words describe the rich life of Sukhdev Singh Dhillon; a man remembered as a devoted father, brother, son, husband, teacher and friend. Sukhdev was born in a small village in Northern India to parents who taught him that there are no limits to what is possible, to dream big. With this sentiment, Sukhdev forged ahead to create a life for himself and his family in Canada. As a school principal and teacher, he taught countless students for over three decades while raising his three daughters with his wife Surjit Kaur Dhillon on the plains of Saskatchewan. For him, education was the key to building a better world and he was known for his love for lively political conversation, rigorous philosophical debate, and ability to explore new horizons. Sukhdev's ambition resilience and compassion will live on through his family and friends who feel incredibly proud to have had him in their lives. His six grandchildren Rekha, Larkin, Keiran, Kahlil, Ishaan and Ashwin were at the centre of his heart and they will carry forward the lessons taught to them by their Nana Ji. He will be greatly missed. His family wishes to warmly thank all of the people who have contributed to Sukhdev's life over the years and across numerous countries. The family extends deep thanks to the nurses, doctors, and support staff at St. Paul's Hospital for their care and empathy. Services celebrating and paying tribute to Sukhdev will be held on Monday, October 20th, 2014 at the Saskatoon Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. (338 Fourth Ave.) and the Sikh Gurdwara immediately following (331 Lowe Road). Arrangements have been entrusted to Saskatoon Funeral Home.

Mr. Dhillon was a teacher of mine over thirty years ago, and he was very compassionate and patient with his students even though their sometimes lack of interest in education was unthinkable to him. A good man all around.

I would like to send my condolences to Dave's family. Dave was very influencial as my high school teacher, always pushing me to excel, and I look back on that with fondness and gratitude. His passion for education was genuine, and he had a positive impact on all of his students. I'm sure his family is very proud of him, and rightfully so. Rest in peace Dave.
