Guillermo Chang Obituary

Guillermo Chang, of North Truro, MA, previously of Boxborough, MA, passed away on January 27, 2021, after a sudden illness. Guillermo was born in Havana, Cuba on July 16, 1960. His parents had previously immigrated to Cuba from China. As the political climate changed in Cuba, Guillermos family made the decision to leave Cuba for the United States. His family arrived on one of the last U.S. airlifts from Cuba to the United States. After a short time in Florida, his family moved to New York City. Once there, Guillermo excelled in the public school system. By the eighth grade he was chosen to be the valedictorian of his eighth grade class. He attended The Dalton School of NYC on a full academic scholarship for his high school years. Guillermo then attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA and received a degree in Chemical Engineering. Early in his career, he started to move into information technology, and became an expert on Internet technology and security. Guillermo worked for IBM for the past several years. Guillermo was fortunate that he truly enjoyed his work. Guillermo lived the last eight years of his life in Truro, MA. He loved Cape Cod, and especially the Outer Cape. Guillermo was a board member of the Truro Conservation Trust, an organization devoted to preserving the natural beauty of Truro. He enjoyed walking his dog Bella on the beach and chatting with his fellow dog walkers. He loved clamming, collecting oysters, kayaking, and socializing with the many friends he made through the years on Cape Cod. Guillermo especially loved spending time with his wife in the home they had lovingly renovated for their retirement. Guillermo is survived by his wife of 32 years, Annmarie (Barrett) Chang. He was a devoted and loving life partner. Guillermo was also a kind and caring father to his daughter, Elizabeth Chang. He was predeceased by his parents, Guillermo Chang and Muy (Yip) Chang. He is also survived by his in-laws, Ann and John Barrett of Concord, MA, his brother-in-law Robert Barrett and his wife Eliane Barrett of Chelmsford, MA, his sister-in law Irene Barrett of Boxborough, MA, his sister-in-law Janie Barrett and her husband David Westcott of Concord, MA, his brother-in-law John Barrett and his wife Sue Gifford Barrett of Bolton, MA, and his nieces, Jennifer Mitchell, Samantha Duarte, Amelia Ludwick, and his nephews Billy Barrett, Benjamin Ludwick, and Lucas Barrett. Due to the current pandemic, a celebration of Guillermos life will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Guillermos memory to the Truro Conservation Trust (truroconservationtrust.org) or to Cape Abilities of Cape Cod (capeabilities.org). Arrangements are under the care of Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord. To share a remembrance or to offer a condolence in his online guestbook, please visit www.DeeFuneralHome.com.
