John Hughes Obituary

John Francis Hughes Sr., 80, of Concord, formerly of Sudbury died Tuesday Nov. 23, 2010 at Emerson Hospital in Concord. He was the beloved husband of 54 years of Kathleen M. (Riemer) Hughes. Born in Cambridge on Sept. 11, 1930 he was the son of the late William J. and Mary Elizabeth (Kelley) Hughes. He attended St. Peters School in Cambridge and graduated from Rindge Technical High School in Cambridge in 1948. He later received a Bachelor's degree from Boston College in 1953 where he majored in Labor and Economics. Mr. Hughes served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1954 until 1956. He retired in the 1980's as Director of Sales and Marketing, after over 30 years of employment with Kendall Co., and later Colgate and Tyco Healthcare. He has resided in Concord since 1997 after previously living in Sudbury for 21 years. In addition to his wife Kathleen, he is survived by eight children, Mariclare TenPas and her husband Dr. John TenPas of Arlington, Hillary Hughes of Quincy, Allison Hughes-Zigelbaum and her husband Todd Zigelbaum and their children Zachary and Sophia of Beverly, Christine Horan and her husband Timothy Horan and their children Caroline, Kylie and Jackson of Medway, Heather Hughes of Melrose, Leslie Pierre and her husband Nady Pierre and their children Arianna and Daniella of Franklin, Patrick Hughes and his wife Brenda Hughes and their children Ryan, Jake, and Brady of Westborough, Diana Hughes-Moreira and her husband Jose Moreira and their daughter Raquel Vivienne of Melrose, a sister-in-law Carol Hughes of Nashua, N.H., a brother-in-law Carlo Cicchetti of Dedham and many nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late John F. Hughes Jr. and brother of the late William Hughes, Margaret Cicchetti and Mary Donlan and brother-in-law of the late Edward Donlan. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday Dec. 10 at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center. Interment with military honors will follow in the family burial plot in St. Bridget's Cemetery, Maynard. A reception in the Colonial Inn, Monument Square, Concord Center will follow the cemetery committal services. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Peters School, 96 Concord Ave., Cambridge, MA 02138 (www.saint-peter-school.org). Concord's town flag will fly at half-staff on Friday Dec. 10 in recognition of Mr. Hughes service to his country during the Korean Conflict. Arrangements are under the care of Charles W.
