Margaret A. Gilligan

Margaret Ann (McKenna) Gilligan, a longtime resident of Concord, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2017 at her home after a long illness. She was 79. Margaret was married to her beloved husband, Frederick Gilligan for 57 years. They met on a blind date when they were both in high school. She was the loving mother of Erin Gilligan and her husband Hoil Kim of Chestnut Hill and Leigh Gilligan and her husband Jeremy Sternberg of Newton. She was the cherished and proud grandmother of Sebastian Gilligan-Kim, Tal Sternberg and Marni Sternberg and had two beloved grand-dogs, Lina and Dubi. She was the sister of Patrick McKenna of Bellerose, NY and had many nieces and nephews. Margaret was the youngest of five children born to Irish immigrants Mary and Patrick McKenna. She grew up in Brooklyn, NY and attended Hunter College High School and the City College of New York. After college, she was a buyer for Allied Stores, an owner of department stores across the US. After raising her two daughters, she returned to her retail roots as the owner of Concord Antiques in Concord Center and then Concord Antiques and the Concord Collection, specializing in both antiques and new home furnishings, in West Concord. Burial will be private. A memorial service will be held at the First Parish Church, 20 Lexington Road, Concord, MA on May 5 at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow.
