William Smethurst Obituary

William H. Smethurst Sr., 82, of Gloucester, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, May 19, 2018 at the Addison Gilbert Hospital. He was born in Bluffton, Indiana on May 17, 1936, son of the late Chester and Evelyn (Hubner) Smethurst. He was a graduate of Concord Carlisle High School. He later managed the family business, Concord Bowling Alley. Later in life he decided to go back to school and graduated from Lowell General School of Nursing, receiving his RN degree. This career led him to work in the emergency room at Emerson Hospital, Winchester Hospital and lastly at the Addison Gilbert Hospital, where he truly loved his work, retiring in the early 90s. Bill enjoyed boating around the Gloucester area. He also loved watching the stock market and was an avid Red Sox, Patriots and Celtic fan. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his daughters, Darah Langa and her husband Mauricio of Franklin, Thenderia Smethurst of Maynard; son, William H. Smethurst Jr. and his girlfriend, Denise Jodice of Fitchburg; grandchildren, Danielle and Grace Langa, Courtney Smethurst-James and Justin Richard and his girlfriend Nicole LaRose; a great-granddaughter, Kyleena Richard; 2 sisters, Cheryl Pratt and her husband David of Colorado, Joyce Pollock and her husband John of Canada; his brother, John Smethurst and his wife Karen of Marshfield and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his former wife, Grace Noel (Kennedy) Smethurst; his brother, Chester Smethurst and his wife Jean. There will be no funeral services and the burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Addison Gilbert Hospital, Attn: Administration, 298 Washington Street, Gloucester, MA 01930. Please make note that it is in William Smethurst Sr.s memory. Arrangements are by the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington Street, Gloucester.
