Winthrop W. Harrington Jr.

Winthrop W. Harrington, Jr. of Lincoln, MA passed on Monday, October 8, 2012 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He leaves his wife Andrea and daughters Wendy and Heidi and their families. He was a resident and dedicated dentist in Lincoln for over 45 years. His love of nature and in particular birds, motivated him to create a small personal paradise of ponds, dams and trails, which his office and patients looked out over. From his operatory he loved to see people enjoy themselves walking these trails and would always wave. Usually seen with binoculars and a smile, he was a member of the Nuttall Ornithological Club and the Brookline Bird Club. He enjoyed chasing rarities, feeding birds, pelagic boats, and Monomoy trips from his Morris Island Home. Winty and Andrea hosted dozens of Concord Christmas Bird Count gatherings, the Nuttall Dragonfly event and the world's first Biodiversity Day dinner for 150 experts in 1998 with Ed Wilson and Bob Bateman et al. Overseas he visited all 7 continents, with a particular love for South American bird tours and African safaris. Thank you to all who have sent their stories and memories. He will be deeply missed.
