Frank Woodhead Obituary

Frank A. Woodhead, 96, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2015 at E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Sally (Hale) Woodhead. He was born in Arlington, MA on January 20, 1919 a son of the late Frank and Alene (Gates) Woodhead. He was educated in Arlington, MA and Bethesda, MD before moving back to Chelmsford and graduating from Chelmsford High School in 1937. In 1941, Frank enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served as a Radio Operator Tech Sergeant in the Fifth Armored Division Recon from Normandy, France to Germany, including the Battle of Hurtgen Forest. He received a Purple Heart, the EAME Ribbon and a Bronze Star with one Silver Service Star. Frank enjoyed working in the outdoors. While in high school he had an egg and dairy route. He worked for Bartlett Tree Company in Westchester County, NY, Cobbs Farm inoculating chickens, installing natural gas connections from Washington, DC to Connecticut, and also worked for Eastern States Farm Bureau and Agway. Franks family would like to thank the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital for their care and compassion. Frank is survived by his sons, Russell Butch Linstad and his wife Arlene Blake of Chelmsford and Roland Roly Linstad and his wife Bethany of New Ipswich, NH and 12 grandchildren, Bruce, Stephen, Brian, Heather, Russell, Pamela, David, Erik, Nathan, John, Benjamin and Laura. He is predeceased by his former wife Claire (Rooney) Linstad Woodhead, a daughter, Aleene Woodhead Burt and a brother, Allen Woodhead. It being his wish, there will be no visitation. Family and friends are invited to attend his graveside service on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at 11 AM at Heart Pond Cemetery, Garrison and Parkerville Rds., Chelmsford. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Franks name to the Wounded Warriors Project, 150 Cambridge Park Dr., Suite 202, Cambridge, MA 02140. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Blake Funeral Home, 24 Worthen Street, Chelmsford. Funeral Director, Paul A. We will all miss Frank at the Lowell VA Clinic where he was our patient until he went to Bedford, VA. What a wonderful, nice and ALWAYS smiling man! Rest in peace Frank.
