Paul Lothrop Obituary

Paul Bowen Lothrop, Jr. 66, of North Eastham, died peacefully at his home on May 25, 2013. A resident of North Eastham for 27 years, he is survived by Kerry Reid, his loving wife and companion of 34 years, his devoted parents, Paul B.Sr. & Mary Jeanette Lothrop, of Florida. He is predeceased by his daughter Johanna Ernst. He is also survived by brothers Richard and Robert of Cape Cod, sisters Karen Lothrop of Cape Cod and Lee Baker of Florida. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, Jay Baker, Colin Reid, Dianna Lothrop, Andrea Baker, Jillian Lothrop, Acacia Lothrop, Jenna Lothrop, Claire Reid, MacKenzie Reid, and great-niece Ava Ripa. He also leaves behind in-laws, Wallace Reid of Maryland, Michael & Debbie Reid of Montana, Julie Reid of Maryland, Bruce and Lisa Reid of Mississippi, Pam Dubois of Cape Cod, Gary Baker of Maine and many other loving family members and friends. Paul was known by family and friends as a man with strong values that included loyalty to family and friends, the importance of hard work, responsibility, and integrity. He had a curiosity of all things, especially literature and music, and was admired for his devotion to his wife, Kerry. In 1964-65, he served his country as a Marine helicopter gunner in Vietnam. As difficult as the Vietnam experience was, Paul would not have changed that part of his life. He felt honored to serve his country. In 1986, he and his wife moved to North Eastham and successfully established Aattaboy Septic Service. Paul was extremely proud that Kenneth Reeves and his wife Jessica have just recently become the new owners of Aattaboy Septic Service. Paul always said that Kenny was "the son that he never had". Paul was a town meeting fixture and cared deeply about all matters in the community of Eastham. He served on the Eastham Board of Health for 12 years with much commitment and dedication. His memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2013 from 10am to 12noon followed by his memorial service at 12noon in the Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, MA. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Wild Care: 10 Smith Lane, Eastham, MA 02642 or VNA Hospice: 434 Route 134, Suite D3, South Dennis, MA 02660. Paul was a guy you wanted in your corner; he was brave, loyal, honest, intelligent, compassionate, and generous. I loved his "Give 'em hell" spirit, and am proud to know he considered me a friend. Eastham Town Meeting won't be the same without him.

Well done, Marine.

Paul was a great guy and a war hero. Thank you Paul for your service, you were so incredibly brave serving as a Marine Helicopter Gunner whose life expectancy could be measured in weeks or days in that dangerous job.
Paul also had a great sense of humor. I remember a town meeting where Paul and I got onstage to make a presentation regarding the Tri Town Sewer treatment Plant proposal at that time. I can't remember all the particulars but I do remember we had the folks at town meeting in stitches laughing at our humorous presentation of an otherwise pretty distasteful topic.
He had no reservation speaking his mind when the topic was important to him. Just a wonderful guy, compassionate, helpful, friendly and hard working, Paul was a Giver not a Taker. Semper Fi Paul

I just finished the slide show. How beautiful to share in the memories of Paul and his family. He sure lead a full life, what a blessing.
A fond memory I have of Paul was when Karen and I while traveling to the West Coast, stopped to visit Paul in W. Virginia. Ahh the mountain man he was. Looking back he was very gracious to the city girls, including breaking the news of the 3 pigs at the bottom of the hill! I'm sure there was a sigh of relief, as we headed back down the mt.
Kerry, I love how Paul always has his arm around you in the pics. He really did love you so. Praying you feel his closeness around you, always.
What a treasure you all have, a tight and loving family.
How fortunate I am to have shared a little part of it all.
Honoring Paul and thinking of you all.
Much love,
Judy MacDonald

I met my dear friend Lee's oldest brother, Paul, in our early 20's, for the first time. He had so many stories to tell, and it was obvious that he had that charming charisma and enormous spirit. Although I had not seen Paul in years, he was a very memorable person.

I am deeply sorry for your loss. Love to all the Lothrup Family and Kerry.

My thoughts are with you! I too have such fond memories of Paul and his humor. One of my first visits was when he came to pump at the restaurant I work at. He rang the bell and when I opened it he said "can you please ask your employees to stop farting when I come here" totally straight faced. I laughed so hard! Then our last call was just a few weeks ago to tell us about what was going on with him and to thank us for all our years of service and how much he appreciated our business! What a "classy" unbelievable man! I hope these stories make you smile.

I always enjoyed when Paul would come to the Chatham Water Pollution Control Facility and share stories with me. Great memories!!!

Rest in peace,

Cheers,

Very sorry for your loss Kerry. I will miss Paul very much. I will always have fond memories of the "old days " when Paul would drive around with his best friend Rosebud. Paul was an asset to the town of Eastham and will be missed.

I knew Paul best through his community and professional work on the Lower Cape in the 80s and 90s. He was a great educator about a subject most of us never thought about - or wanted to!
But he taught many of us what we needed to know, using his keen intelligence, a great sense of humor, and a passion for his chosen home and surrounding environment. He said and did what needed to be said and done; and his honesty, integrity and pithy choice of words will always be remembered with appreciation and affection. Thanks for sharing yourself with us, Paul. Condolences to his family, friends and community.

We send our deepest sympathy to Kerry and to Paul's extended family. Paul was a generous and loving person with a wonderful sense of humor. We have gotten a lot of laughs remembering some particularly funny "Paulisms". He was also a wonderful story teller and amused us many an evening recounting some of his more challenging pumping adventures. We will miss you Paul and we love you, Kerry.

We are overwhelmed with sadness and send our love to Kerry and all of the family for your tremendous loss.

One of the great Oaks in our forest has fallen, but the steadfast example, brilliant mind and clear compass he lived by is the gift we will all continue to carry in our hearts.

Paul, you cared and gave so much- thanks dear, true friend. You were one in a million! Much Love, Judi, Rick and Ben

I always had a lot of respect for Paul, not only for the way he conducted his business, but how deeply he cared for the Town of Eastham and their finances. His outspokenness at Town Meeting was not always well tolerated, but he did his homework and usually was accurate in pointing out math inconsistencies.
As a fellow Vietnam Veteran, I will dearly miss him. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

We struggle to find the right words to express our deepest sympathies and sadness in hearing of Paul's death. We will never forget the special times we shared together on Queen Anne - and how much we appreciated his friendship. Our thoughts are with Kerry at this very unimaginable moment of loss. We love you. Janet and Francine
