John E. Conant

John E. Conant, 67, of East Bridgewater, formerly of Rockland, died May 26. Born in Weymouth, he was the son of Gordon F. and Mary E. (Fitzgerald) Conant. John was raised and educated in Rockland. John served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a mail handler and union president for the U.S. Postal Service. John coached and played softball, enjoyed fishing, the Red Sox, gardening, playing poker and reading. He is survived by his former wife, Patricia (Flaherty) Conant of East Bridgewater; and his children, John G. Conant and his wife Melynda of Abington, Patrick F. Conant of Bridgewater, Tracey L. Conant of Rockland, Kathleen Conant of East Bridgewater and twins Molly M. and Michael F. Conant of East Bridgewater. John was grandfather of five grandchildren; and great-grandfather of four great-grandchildren. He is survived by his brother, Michael Conant and his wife Judy of Oxford; and many nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his siblings, Mary Towle, Gerald Conant, Grace Chaponis, Arthur Conant, Clare Taves, Joyce McCarthy, Roger Conant and Joseph Conant. A funeral Mass was celebrated June 1, in Holy Family Church, 403 Union St., Rockland. Interment in St. Patricks Cemetery, Rockland. Arrangements by Sullivan Funeral Home, 45 E. Water St., Rockland.
