John Meade Obituary

John E. Jake Meade, 83, a lifelong resident of Easton, died Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at the Guardian Center in Brockton after a period of failing health. He was the husband of Dorothy R. (LaFratta) Meade. Born in Brockton, a son of the late Richard W. and Catherine P. (McDonald) Meade, he was raised in Easton and was a graduate of Oliver Ames High School. He continued his education at night at Massasoit Community College earning an associates degree in fire science. Jake began his working career as a machinist while also working as a call fire fighter for Town of Easton. He was later appointed full time to the Easton Fire Department and retired in 1992 with the rank of Captain. After his retirement from the Town of Easton, he worked at Pine Oaks Golf Course, was a currier driver for pharmaceutical deliveries and was a limousine driver. He was a member of both the Conte Club in Brockton and the Upland Club in Plympton. An avid golfer he enjoyed woodworking. In addition to his wife Dorothy, he is survived by a brother, Robert Meade of Middleboro and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was also the brother of the late Richard W. Jake and I grew up together with his brother Bob [Rabbit]. We lived across the street from each other. We attended the old Eastondale grammar school together, even though he was a year ahead and I was a year ahead of Rabbit. We played with each other growing up, playing sandlot football and baseball together. WE attended dances together at the old Oliver Ames High School with the rest of the Eastondale gang, and when I was in college, dated together with his now beloved wife. I was in college dating her best girlfriend at the time. After I married [not his wife's girlfriend] and moved to Texas, I saw Jake, while visiting back home in Eastondale, at the fire station where he worked with my brother-in-law Paul Brophy. I believe the last time I saw Jake was when Paul passed away. Over the years I lost all contact with the old Eastondale gang. Fortune has shined and I am now back in contact with Rabbit and we met a while ago while I was on the Cape at my family cottage.
