Mary Nolan Obituary

Mary Elizabeth (Freitas) Nolan, lifelong of Easton, passed away Friday, March 9, at The Copley in Stoughton. Mrs. Nolan was 88 years old. Mary was the wife of the late Stephen F. Nolan Jr. and beloved mother of her seven children: Stephen F. Nolan III of Easton, Dennis J. Nolan of Easton, Timothy J. Nolan of Easton, Mary Beth Clay of Falmouth, Nancy E. Zimmerman of Conway, SC, Robert L. Nolan of Barnstable and Kathleen M. Greene of East Wareham. Mary was the proud grandmother of 21 grandchildren and the loving great-grandmother of 35 great- grandchildren. Mrs. Nolan is also survived by her brother Joseph Freitas of Easton and her sister Rose Buck of Easton. She was predeceased by her siblings the late Manuel Freitas, John Freitas, Peter Freitas, Louis Freitas and Philomena Dovico. Born Nov. 13, 1923 in Easton, Mary was the daughter of the late John and Rose Freitas (Conceison). She graduated from Oliver Ames High School, Class of 1942, where she was a notable athlete as a member of the field hockey, basketball and cheerleading teams. After high school, Mary went on to cosmetology school in Boston and worked as a licensed hairdresser. Above all, Mrs. Nolan was a woman of family and faith. She was an active parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church in Easton, a member of the Daughters of Isabella, and a leader in the Four H Club, Blue Bird Club and the Cub Scouts. She was also a member of a local knitting club and served as Warden for Precinct 2 in Easton. Her love of gardening, hairdressing, and (especially) baking brought countless visitors to her home, but none so precious as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be loved and missed by all who knew her. Marys life was celebrated with a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 193 Main St., Easton, Thursday, March 15. Calling hours were held from 4-8 p.m. at Copeland-MacKinnon Funeral Home, 38 Center St., Easton, Wednesday, March 14. Interment will be in Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Easton following the funeral Mass Thursday. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a charity of your choice in her honor.

We all will miss the kindest second Mom anyone could have. Everyone was always welcomed and fed when they dropped in. She never had a bad thing to say about anyone. My prayers are with you.

I am so sorry for your loss. Heidi shared with me memorable moments she had with her Grandmother - having their morning tea together for many years. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I have always thought it was the greatest when a person visited Aunt Mary's on Center St, they were always welcomed with a warm smile. My whole life it was like that. It didn't matter what random time of day, there was always Aunt Mary and family, ready to sit down and visit. Have some popcorn, gab, catch up. It was amazing. What a wonderful gift to create a welcoming home like that!

I have such great memories of your mother..She was a great friend to my mother and such a kind soul. My fondest memory is her never ending love of chocolates and the big smile that she always had for all of us. I hope your memories bring lots of laughter and peace.
