John Patterson Obituary

John F. "Jack" Patterson, a longtime resident of Stoughton, United States Marine Corps veteran and retired Stoughton firefighter for 34 years, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2017, at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was 81 years old and the beloved husband of over 57 years to Brenda A. (Ireland) Patterson. He is also survived by his children, John F. "Jack" Patterson Jr. and his wife Diana of Navarre Beach, FL., Paula (Patterson) Wedge and her husband Scott of Stoughton, Michael G. Patterson of Stoughton, and Patricia (Patterson) Simons of Foxboro. Other survivors include his sister and brothers, Laura Tessier and husband Buzzy of Deland, FL, Bobby Patterson of Bellingham, Wally Patterson and his wife Laurie of Lowell and Kenny Patterson and wife Lorna of Sharon. He was also a loving brother to the late Nancy Bainton and is survived by his brother-in-law, Keith of New Hampshire. Jack was also the cherished "Beepa" to his grandchildren, Michael Wedge, Matthew Wedge, Christopher Patterson, Nicholas Patterson, Amanda Patterson, Eric Patterson, Kelly McGill, Madison Simons and soon to be great-grandchild, Mason Michael Bisbee. Mr. Patterson was born June 14, 1936, in Boston, and was a son to the late Garnet and Elizabeth "Betty" (Thayer) Patterson. John attended Boston Public Schools and was a graduate of Sharon High School. He later attended Massasoit Community College where he attained his associate's degree. Jack proudly served his country as a soldier in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1958 with the rank of Sergeant. Jack served the Stoughton community as a firefighter for 34 years and enjoyed his career and firefighter brothers immensely. John enjoyed yard work, especially mowing his lawn. He was also a welder at the former Quincy Shipyard and was extremely proud of his Scottish Heritage. He also enjoyed golfing and was a former board member and current patron of the Sons of Italy in Stoughton. Jack was also a longtime member of the Canton Town Club and enjoyed his part-time job of over 22 years assisting his daughter at Paulas Package Store in Canton. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. "Semper Fi". At Johns request a celebration of his life with military honors will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017, from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. in the Sheehan, Lowe & Powers Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 115 Monk Street, Stoughton. Donations in Jacks memory can be made to the Stoughton Firefighters Local 1512 Relief Fund, c/o the Stoughton Fire Department, 36 Freeman Street, Stoughton, MA 02072 or the Stoughton Veterans Services Office, c/o Veterans Services Officer / Director Michael L. Mr. Patterson,
Sir, as a fellow Marine I would just like to say thank you for your years of dedicated service and sacrifice-first for our Country when you served with the USMC and later for the citizens of Stoughton when you served with the SFD. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
