Mitchell J. Goodhue

Mitchell J. Mitch Goodhue of Randolph and Osterville, born August 5, 1923, passed away January 5, 2015, at the age of 91. He was the husband of the late Kathleen (Scanlon) Goodhue, who predeceased him by 2.5 years. They had been married for 65 years; loving father of Mitchell J. Goodhue Jr. of Randolph, Margaret M. Feodoroff and her husband Richard of No. Easton, Richard J. Goodhue of Randolph and Patricia Goodhue-OBrien and her husband Timothy of Roswell, Ga., and the late Claire Goodhue; son of the late Mitchell J. and Lillian (Holst) Goodhue; devoted brother of Claire E. Tero and the late Henry and Alfred Goodhue; dear grandfather of Matthew O. Feodoroff of Elmhurst, Ill., Meaghan E. Curcio of Los Angeles, Calif., Carrie A. Goodhue of Waltham, Michael R. Goodhue of Pa., Kristin M. Garabedian of Norwood, Kienan S. OBrien and Lillian Schreiner, both of Roswell, Ga. Also survived by his 8 great-grandchildren. Mr. Goodhue was a veteran of World War II and served with the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1945. Mr. Goodhues career was in insurance. Ultimately he opened and ran a successful independent insurance agency, Mitchell J. Goodhue Insurance Agency for over 50 years. It was his love of all sports, and baseball in particular, that spurred him to be involved in instituting the South Randolph Little League; the Babe Ruth Little League; the Randolph Babe Ruth League; and American Legion Baseball in Randolph in the 1950s and 1960s. It was his introduction to the town meeting members that land on North Street was turned over to be used as the South Randolph Little League for recreational purposes. That area was subsequently expanded to include fields, for Babe Ruth Baseball. An ice hockey rink was also erected on the site. He was instrumental in having an article passed by the town meeting members to designate an area of land on the corner of Pleasant and North Streets as a park to be named Joseph Hart Park after a former tree warden and activist in the town of Randolph. Mitchell was a former past Grand Knight of the Randolph Knights of Columbus, and past president of the Randolph Jr. Chamber of Commerce where he helped establish ice hockey a recognized sport in Randolph. He was also a member of the various veterans organizations as well as the Elks. Second to his love of baseball was his love of politics. He was a Randolph Town Meeting member for 42 years. During those years he was chairman of the Randolph Zoning Board of Appeals, Finance Committee and the School Building and Planning committees. He also campaigned for many state and local politicians. Mitchell was a longtime communicant of St. Mary Parish, Randolph. Reposing was at the Cartwright Funeral Home, 419 No. Main Street (Rte. 28), Randolph, until 9:15 a.m. Monday, Jan. 12, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary Church, Randolph.
