Neva Reiner Obituary

After a brief illness, Neva McCormick Reiner died on October 22, 2018, just shy of her 91st birthday. She was born in 1927 in Knoxville, TN to Maj. William Holland McCormick and Ruth Keener McCormick. Neva leaves behind her three children Joseph, of Seattle, WA, Laura (and her partner Guy Washburn) of Stow, MA, and Katherine, of Acton, MA. Neva graduated from Greensboro Women's College (now UNC-Greensboro). After college, she worked for a time as a secretary in the CIA. She married David Reiner in 1954 and they moved into a brick row house in Baltimore. In 1958, Neva and David moved to Lexington. After their children entered the later years of public school, Neva began working as a librarian for the Town of Lexington, a position she held for many years. She was active in the League of Women's Voters and various other liberal political and social causes. She was also an avid gardener and birder and traveled the world on birding and nature trips. She also loved playing bridge. Both Neva and David enjoyed traveling, as well as the arts, and frequently attended plays, classical music concerts, and museums. After the death of David, Neva moved to Brookhaven, a retirement community in Lexington where she spent many happy years not cooking and enjoying various community activities--did we mention bridge? Neva was a smart energetic woman with a dry sense of humor that matched her martinis. Please raise a glass. She will be sorely missed. Burial will be private but donations in her memory may be made to Mass Audubon or EldersClimateAction.org.
