David Webber Obituary

David N. Webber, Jr.
8/4/55 - 6/27/14
Resident of Santa Clara
David passed away from brain hypoxia resulting from limited emergency care while vacationing in Moscow, Russia. Med-evac'd back to El Camino Hospital where he died peacefully. Born in Long Beach, CA to his late parents, David and Mary Lou Webber. Raised in Carmichael, CA. BS in Physics from the University of Arizona. Met his beloved wife, Kanaka Esther Szabo-Webber, in 1990 when she was attaining her BS and he is MBA, both from the UofA. They married in 1995 and moved shortly thereafter to Santa Clara for David's work. David worked for Vantive Corp., Peoplesoft and from 2004, for VMware, Inc. all in the capacity of technical trainer.
His work sent him to teach all over the world fueling his passion for travel, especially foreign. He loved history, geography, exploring other cultures, language, music, the SF Giants, UofA women's basketball, and all gatherings of friends and family. Had he lived 100 years he wouldn't have had enough time to explore all of his interests and see everything he wanted to see.
An avid cheerleader of his wife's career and personal interests one could not have asked for a more supportive, generous and adoring husband.
Survived and greatly missed by his loving wife, Kanaka, sister Christina Ragsdale, Uncle Bill Webber, Aunt Jan Webber, sister-in-law Anasuya Basil, mother-in-law Joan Szabo and last but not least cat, Leo.
Donations may be made to Amnesty International, Doctors Without Borders, and Oxfam. Friends and family welcome to attend memorial Sunday August 17 at Hakone Gardens, Saratoga, to begin promptly at 5:30 p.m.

David and I were thrilled "nerds" at Vantive - I so loved working with him - I learned a lot working with him.

I remember David from my first days at Vantive. He was a treasure to work with. While I didn't get to be as good a friend with him outside of work as I would have liked, he will be missed. May his soul travel the cosmos finding all of the wonders that he sought in life as well.

Kanaka - Lisa Bito just shared this sad news with me and I was just so shocked. I worked with David at Vantive - we were the two nerds - always interested in the technical points of any discussion. I had many wonderful moments working with David. I am so sorry for your loss - David was a wonderful person. Please accept my prayers for you and David's family members.

I met David when we worked at Vantive. I was drawn to introduce myself to him because we had the same surname. He always impressed me as a smart and kind human being. My deeply felt condolences to his family and friends.

David was a pleasure to be around, I feel like I learned something new every time I was around him. Due to his extensive travels and reading and knowledge of culture, he had such extensive knowledge of the world. I always enjoyed that of David.

I have so many wonderful memories about David. For a while, I was able to stay as a guest in Kanaka and David's guest room one night when traveling to the Bay Area for work trips - and I felt like one of the family. I loved David's incredible intelligence and hilarious witty sense of humor. I loved how he supported each person's uniqueness and individuality with a warmth and acceptance and insatiable curiosity. I loved how he quite obviously cherished SO many things about Kanaka. I remember calling him once for help navigating somewhere and he intuitively knew the route. He always made me laugh and feel like I was my best me. I was sorry to see his declining health these past years, and the pain. I am so grateful he was doing something he loved until his last time here... Travel and spending time with Kanaka. I know he is at more peace now and I know we all carry a piece of him with us and we are better for it. Love, Lela M

We met David & Esther when they moved from Arizona to Santa Clara and they became our next door neighbors. David was a wonderful man and so very smart. I would just love to listen to him talk about so many different things. David and Esther were a big part of our lives and our childrens. We are so very blessed to have known David. We love you so much Esther!! David will always be in our hearts and we have some wonderful memories.

David had a terrific sense of adventure and fun, which he shared so easily. I remember a trip I took with David and Esther to Santa Fe (before they were married?), and how the three of us went off the beaten path at a hotel at which we we were not staying, wandering through conference rooms and elsewhere like spies, laughing the whole time. He was warmhearted and upbeat and a wonderful husband. I will miss him.

David was one of the nicest guys I've ever met. I was saddened to read this, but heartened to learn he died doing what he loved with people he loved. He lived well.

I met David through his wife Kanaka. Their sense of adventure and love of history was such a gift. I cherish their vacation to Eastern KY where I got to see them together for days. He adored and respected Kanaka, and Eastern Ky ( ;-) ) so much.

I was a colleague of David's at VMware for his entire tenure and was involved in his initial mentoring with VMware technical training. Although we did not teach together once after his first deliveries, what made it memorable was having to cancel the class halfway through due to hurricanes shutting down all of south Florida (we were in Miami). He was a penultimate professional, mindful of his audience and surroundings and all around optimistic and good-hearted human being.

My condolences to the whole family. May his memory forever be a blessing to you all.

I knew David when we both worked for Vantive and PeopleSoft. We communicated infrequently over the years; however, I always considered him one of my dear friends.

Meeting David and Esther on our trip to Russia was one of the highlights of a most memorable trip. Although we only knew David for a very little time, we shared in his remarkable enthusiasm and curiosity for travel and living. David's indomitable spirit despite tough health challenges and Esther's loving kindness, sweetness and loyalty to David we shall always remember and be of greatinspiration. With fondness, Julie and Fred Tirrell
