Raymond Catania Obituary

Raymond F. Catania MARSHFIELD Raymond F. Catania, formerly of Maynard, died suddenly Friday, January 15, 2010 at age 87 in Palm Bay, Fla. He leaves his wife of 62 years, Maria (Contino), and his four children and their spouses, Francis and Jee Catania of Natick, Vivien and Robert Donovan of Maynard, Vincent Catania and Wendy Lavallee of Boston, and Joseph and Janette Catania of Palm Bay, Fla. He also leaves his grandchildren, Robert Donovan and Wendy Armagost of Maynard, David Catania of Brooklyn, N.Y., Maria Leeds and Raymond Catania of Palm Bay, Fla., Timothy Lavallee of Virginia, and Nicole Thompson of South Carolina; great-grandchildren Simon, Arora, Noah, Isahia and Bree, great-great-grandchild Rowen, and many nieces and nephews. Raymond was in the 4th Marine Division, Pioneers Battalion during World War II. He was in four major battles Roi Namur, Tinian, Saipan and Iwo Jima where he was wounded twice and received two Purple Hearts. He was a carpenter most of his life, having worked on many homes in the Maynard/Stow area and retired from the Acton school system. He was also a life member of the Knights of Columbus and a Past Grand Knight, life member of the Boston and Florida chapters of the 4th Marine Division Association, and a life member of DAV Marlboro Contingent. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 21, from the Fowler-Kennedy Funeral Home, 42 Concord St., Maynard with a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Bridgets Church, corner of Percival and Sudbury streets, Maynard. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anns by the Sea, 591 Ocean St., Marshfield, MA 02050.

I was sorry to read in the Boston Globe via internet while in Naples Fl. of the death of Raymond. I remember him well from the days that I was pastor at St. Isidore Parish in Stow. MA. I will remember him at Mass. My sympathy to his family especially his wife.
