Scott Ryan Obituary

Scott Arthur Ryan, 35, of West Chester, PA died Sunday December 13 after a valiant battle with melanoma. Scott was born in Boston and grew up in Medford, MA. He graduated from Medford High School and was a theater major at Wheaton College (MA). He is survived by his wife of 8 years, Rachel Corinne Ryan, daughter Lillyan and son Arthur. Other loving family members include his parents Jim and Kim Ryan of Medford, brothers David Ryan and wife Katie and nephew Harry of Silver Spring, MD, and Patrick Ryan and girlfriend Jaime Young of Medford and his parents-in-law, Thomas and Janet Crow, Arlington, TX. Scott was blessed with a large family of wonderful aunts, uncles and cousins. Scott was a dad, husband, brother, and son. He was an actor, singer, gamer, and board game-designer. He did great voices, gave great hugs and his raptor impersonation caused children of all ages to burst into fits of giggles. Scotts summers were spent at Bustins Island, Maine surrounded by a myriad of friends and cousins playing Dungeons and Dragons, cards and other games, building forts, playing baseball, and messing around in boats. Scott discovered the joy of the theater in second grade and went on to perform in many productions; Medford High School Drama Club, The Commonwealth Shakespeare Company (Shakespeare on the Common), The Company Theater, and his theater home The Barley Sheaf Players. During college he spent a semester studying and performing at the National Theater Institute at the Eugene ONeil Theater Center. Scott loved to sing, especially with his a cappella brothers The Gentleman Callers at Wheaton or at any karaoke microphone he happened to run across. A memorial service will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday January 30, 2016 at The First Community United Methodist Church 55 Otis Street Medford MA 02155. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the following organizations. Idk if I believe in an afterlife but if there is such a thing, I hope you were there to guide my brother Peter Daniel who died of covid 2 years ago. Leaving behind a wife and my teenage niece. I really think you guys would have hit it off. He was into a lot of the same things you were. Like you he also died over the holidays.

To the Ryan Family,
Please accept my most sincere condolences for the tragic loss of Scott. I have such wonderful memories of him. He was a shy, introverted young man when I first knew him, academically talented in a quiet way. Of course, this all changed when Scott discovered the stage!! The transformation was magical, so much so that , when seeing him perform, I checked my program to be sure I was actually watching Scott!!! He could cast an aside to the audience, setting it howling with laughter! His performances drew a standing ovation at the end of each performance he graced! It was inspirational to see!! I know you have many such wonderful memories of Scott. He was truly one of a kind. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time of profound loss. Scott is in my prayers and my heart.
With most sincere regards and much love,
Diane Gulino Abramson

At this time of sorrow my thoughts and prayers go to Scott's large family and friends. I can still see him playing in the Summer sun on Bustin's Island, Maine.
