Dalita Chorlian Obituary

Dalita D. Chorlian, 91. Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, May 6th, 2012 from 6-9 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, for Dalita (Der Sahakian) Chorlian, who died on Wednesday, April 25th at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center of Boston, following a long illness. Her funeral service will be conducted in the First Congregational Church, 230 Beach St., Revere on Monday, May 7th at 11 a.m., followed by entombment in Woodlawn Mausoleum (Sheffield Building) of Everett. Born in Tiflis, Russia, now Tiblisi, Georgia, on July 4, 1920, the family immigrated to Germany in 1928, then to France in 1930, and then to the United States of America in 1936, settling in Watertown. She was an alumna of Girls' High School of Boston & then graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music. She majored in Voice, & was pronounced an alto soprano. She had a full & robust voice, almost operatic in delivery. She sang for the Armenian Community & was a long-time member of the Yerevan Chorale Society of Belmont, for over 25 years. She sang in many churches in the area, including the Watertown Evangelical Church. In 1950, she made an extended trip to Fresno, California, then a mecca of Armenian culture & often sang on the Armenian Radio station. Her family had long roots to life within the Armenian Church & the Evangelical Movement. Her father, the late Reverend Mardiros Der Sahakian, was pastor of several Armenian-Evangelical Churches in the area. She was also the daughter of the late Mariam (Avedian) Der Sahakian. Mrs. Chorlian's husband, John G. Chorlian, a member of one of Revere's oldest Armenian Families, died in July of 1997. She is the Cherished Mother of Paul C. Chorlian & his devoted wife, Tomi S. (Bergeron) Chorlian of West Newton. She is the dear Sister of Pauline Amiralian of Woburn & the late Karmille Harutunian. She is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, & grand-nephews. In 1969, Mrs. Chorlian, together with her family moved to West Newton.
