Dorothy Lanciloti Obituary

Dorothy J. (Nicolazzo) Lanciloti passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 19, 2018. She was a lifelong resident of Newton and loved being a mother, devoting much of her life to raising her six children. She never missed attending a school or sports activity and served as a second mother to many of her childrens friends and neighbors. As a young woman before marriage and children she started her own beauty shop which she remained proud of for her entire life. Once her youngest child entered Junior High school she returned to the workforce beginning as a part time telephone interviewer at IDC in Framingham where she rose to Director of Interview Staff and remained there for 10 years. Her last job was as Director of Admissions at Blaine Beauty School in Waltham. Dot loved people and was especially known for her annual Boston Marathon party that she hosted for over 30 years. She loved to cook, especially lasagna and her other favorite Italian foods. She was an avid volunteer for many causes but espe- cially active with United Cerebral Palsy and helped to make their annual telethon a success. She was active politically in the City of Newton and served on many committees including the Newton Tricentennial Commission. In 1994 she was named by the mayor as one of the most influential people in the City of Newton. Active and sharp until the end of her life, Dot developed a passion and skill for winning at weekly Trivial Pursuit games at her senior living community. She is survived by her husband William, children William Jr., Michael, Cynthia, Stephen, Scott and his wife Dana, grandchildren Adam, Christopher, Madeline, Logan, Violet, Calla, great grandson Christopher, her sister Marilyn Tofanelli and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her daughter Dianne, parents Santo and Carmella (Capello) and her sister Helen Constantine. A funeral mass will be held at Saint Bernards church in West Newton at 10am on April 28, 2018. Burial to follow in Newton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, www.ovarian.org .

I'm so sorry to hear of Mrs. Lanciloti's passing. I never got to meet her but she and her husband allowed our young family to stay in their home while our daughter got radiation treatments in Boston while they were in Florida. Their home comforted us and we created cherished memories there. I can't begin to tell you how happy we were to have a home away from home during a challenging time.Rest in peace, kind, generous Dot.
