Rick Lewallen Obituary

Ricky Steven Lewallen
July 7, 1953 - January 8, 2014
On Wednesday another song came to an end when Rick was suddenly called home by our Father. A Modesto native, self employed handyman, accomplished musician, and father Rick lived his life full of music, laughter, and family. The son of Carl Lewallen and Wanda Hale, both deceased, Rick lived in Modesto most of his life except for a short excursion to Monterey, followed by another in the mountains of Sonora. A craftsman with wood but a musician by heart, Rick had a passion for music that was clearly evidence by his talent. His voice sang of life, love and loss while his guitar played the lead to his journeys. For those closest to Rick one could find a certain irony in a quote from Eric Clapton where he states, " ......he was unwilling to reveal himself beyond what could be determined from the music and his guitar singing. " Rick was a father who loved and will continue to love his children whether by their side or from afar. He leaves behind his daughter, Nicole Huffman of Modesto; son, Richard Lewallen of Jamestown; daughter, Jessica Avila (Eric) of Turlock; and son, Josh Lewallen (Nina) of Orville. Rick was also grandfather to Promise Lewallen of Jamestown. Besides the children, his sister Gail Milleville of Modesto along with nieces, Cali and Amiee, will dearly miss their Brother and Uncle who has ventured on in this life's pilgrimage. There are many lives touched by Rick through love, music, rode trips, and his genuine quest for the perfect rhythm. Services and a Celebration of Life for family and friends are being planned and will be announced once all arrangements have been completed. In the meantime for those walking down memory lane, search out and listen to: The Allman Brother's Little Martha or Revival for those great guitar rifts, Rick loved so much. And to you our Dear Rick, let us close for now on "Blue Sky" with you in our hearts and " One Way Out " in our souls. God Bless you and see you when we hear those sweet notes of your guitar.

You will be missed Rick. Got to know you from when you'd come see my band play at the Fat Cat. You always had a big smile on your face that always lifted my spirits. Funny it took me the longest time to remember your name so I'd usually call you David Crosby :). I'll miss hangin out with you but am very thankful we got to know each other before you passed on. Rest in peace friend.

We went to high school together and made each other laugh a lot! Then he asked me out. Both too shy to do more than sit there and smile at each other...and giggle. LOL He was the only boy I introduced my dad to that dad liked. He could tell that Rick was a good guy and they both loved cars, so that helped. Thanks for the memories Rick. I know there is a special place in heaven for you!

Memories ; Rick's Riveria, drives to nowhere, the parent of the year award for Richards preschool, camping trips , and laughs - long hard laughing shared with many friends and family. Richard - you and your Dad share many traits including those Crystal blue eyes and love of classic cars. Gail - your brother loved you so much and always felt protective of you along with your girls. And Promise , your Grandpa was very proud of you. He said you reminded him of your Dad when he was younger. To Nicole, Jessica and Josh - my heartfelt prayers of sympathy that you may find comfort in the kind words of those who love you and the Graces of our Lord.
Rick - what a life we had .. Thank you for our son and the memories ....and until it is my time to climb that stairway to heaven just know the song will always evoke a warm feeling of gratitude for our time together.
Peace be with you - Love Cindy ( your Kate)

Rick was a great friend in high school we used to cruise around together in his '53 Chevy that he bought for about 50 bucks. We'd go around listening to all the rock bands of that time, Boz Scaggs, Elvin Bishop, Strange Weather and others. Go in peace my friend.

You started out as my 'go to' handyman years ago and then became my friend. You had the warmest heart and soul, great sense of humor and sweet, sweet smile. I will miss you terribly. I ask God to watch over you and to bless your family and friends and help all of us learn to live without you in our lives and keep you in our hearts forever. Till we meet again, my friend.

January 14, 2014

Rick was an awesome inspiration of a man...always with a smile and a hug...the world needs a lot more people like Rick with a belly rolling laugh and a confident ear to ear grin that stays in your mind long after he's left the room...Thank you Rick...we didn't spend near enough time together but the time we had made a lifelong impression and I'll carry that with me forever ...1111....
