Dr. Richard A. Gross, 66, of Plymouth, formerly of Lakeville, died on Friday, May 23, two years after his diagnosis of glioblastoma. He was the beloved husband of Robin (Kaplan) Gross for 41 years, and devoted father of Samantha and her husband, Adam Zirkin, of New York City; Sarah Gross and her husband, Dr. Kaveer Nandigam of Lititz, Pa.; Sandra Gross of Weymouth, and Seth Gross, SPC in the United Sates Army, stationed in Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. Cherished grandfather of Aerin, Jacob, and Ronen Zirkin. Loving brother of Cynthia Gross and her husband, Dr. Peter Bitterman, and the late Samuel Gross and his wife, Karen, of Winter Park, Fla. Beloved son of the late Joseph and Marion Gross of Winthrop. He is lovingly remembered by his mother-in-law, Lorraine Kaplan, and his sisters-in law and brothers-in-law. He had a special relationship with all his loving nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Dr. Gross was born April 8, 1948 in Brookline, Mass. and raised in Winthrop. He also served on the staff of Good Samaritan Hospital and Cranberry Specialty Hospital. He was affiliated with several area nursing homes. Dr. Gross was known to be a devoted, caring doctor, well loved by his many patients from all over the South Shore and beyond. In 2013, Dr. Gross was the recipient of the Massachusetts Medical Society Community Clinician of the Year award from both Bristol North and Plymouth Counties. He also received a citation from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts House of Representatives in recognition of his outstanding dedication, commitment, and service to the community. He also served as president of the Pilgrim Foundation. He was an active member of Tifereth Israel Synagogue in New Bedford, Mass. Dr. Gross had a passion for photography and printed his photos on canvas and gallery wrapped them himself. He displayed his work in area galleries and took great pleasure in giving them to his caregivers and the many volunteers who helped him during his illness. He was a great man. I had a rare case of adult onset Hydro that came on severe. We didn't know how bad until after the surgery. The insurance company wanted me to wait for a CAT scan. If it wasn't for his insistence I may have lost. Now I have 5 children and a loving family. He earned a place in my heart for his help.

I am just so sorry to hear about Richard's passing. He was such wonderful man in so many ways. Richard and I played in the Winthrop High School Band together and I remember at one bitterly cold football game, he took off his gloves and let me wear them. That was the kind of person he was.

Dr. Gross was a very attentive person, he listened to everything you had to say, and would even read your list of complaints/symptoms, if you had one. The best Dr. and friend anyone could ever have, he will be missed by many.

My condolences to the family. Dr. Gross was a good man with a kind heart. I worked in his office many years ago and, with his encouragement, went back to college, pursuing a medical career. I will light a candle in his remembrance today.

We are very sad to hear about the passing of Dr. Richard Gross. He touched our family in so many ways. When you and your husband moved from Lakeville it was a very sad day for us. He is with God now and no more suffering. I always loved his words to my son, "just be my friend" That is how special a man he truly was. God bless your family through this hard time.

Life can give us sweet moments to
Cherish

Moments in time that are captured and flourish

Or that's how it seems with life in the present

But life is so fleeting I can only lament

That my brief time with you was endearingly spent
