George E. Gately Jr.

George E. Ted Gately Jr, 71 of Georgetown passed away Monday October 2, 2017 at the High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill after a courageous battle with cancer. One of three children of the late George E and Marjorie (Cleary) Gately, he was born in Haverhill, raised in South Groveland and attended Haverhill Trade School. Following school he proudly served his country honorably in the US Navy aboard USS Davis DD937 during the Vietnam war and following that he spent 20+ years in the US Navy reserves achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer and Surface Warfare Specialist. Prior to his retirement he was employed as a printing engineer with a top secret clearance for a defense contractor. Ted enjoyed playing cribbage, studying and researching genealogy, reading and socializing with friends and family. He had an uncanny ability to strike up a conversation with anyone he met and he will be deeply missed. Ted was married for 28 years to Martha (Edgerly) Gately who he missed dearly since her passing in 2009. Ted is survived by his sons, Patrick Gately of Laconia, NH and Chris Gately of Laconia, NH; his step sons, William Meader of Pittsfield, NH, Scott Meader of San Diego, CA and Chris Meader and his wife Nikki of West Boxford, MA; two brothers, Tom Gately and his wife Veronica of Spokane, WA , Kevin Gately and his husband Todd Leavitt of Colchester, VT; a sister, Sue Belfiore and her husband Gary of Haverhill, MA, along with several grandchildren, step grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Teds family would sincerely like to thank the staff at the MGH Cancer Center in Danvers, the staff of the High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill and the nurses and staff of Salem Hospital in Salem, MA for the care he has received during his battle with cancer. Family and friends were kindly invited to attend his Funeral Service on Monday, October 9th at 11AM in the Conte - Giamberardino Funeral Home, 14 Pleasant Street, Georgetown.
