Kenneth Nunan Obituary

Mr. Kenneth W. Nunan, Sr. 103, of Georgetown, formerly of Saugus, died peacefully on Friday evening, April 6, 2018 at the Country Center Health and Rehabilitation in Newburyport. He was the husband of the late Marion T. (Bailey) Nunan. Ken and Marion met in Georgetown and were married in 1941. Marion died in 1983. Ken later married Eileen (Bulman) Twohig Nunan who died in 2011. Ken was born February 21, 1915 in Saugus. He is the son of the late Albert D. and Annie (Campbell) Nunan. Upon graduating from Essex Agricultural School he worked with his father and brother Albert, Jr. in the family business. This was known as A.D. Nunan and Sons Florist located in Saugus. They moved the business to Georgetown in 1933. Ken was a firefighter in the Georgetown Fire Department in the early 1940s. In 1949 Ken left to work for CBS television as an audio technician in New York. He worked on many projects including space missions at Cape Canaveral, Democratic and Republican conventions, Miss America Pageants, soap operas and the Jackie Gleason Show. Ken had special clearance to work in Washington, DC in the federal buildings including the White House. Ken loved to tell stories about his TV work. Two of his personal favorites were about Barbara Streisand and Jackie Gleason, to name a couple. In 1964 he bought the family business from his father and renamed it Nunans Florist and Greenhouses and ran it until he sold it in 1985. He is survived by his sons Kenneth W. Nunan, Jr. and his wife Mary of Billerica, George E. Nunan of Salisbury, MA, Donald G. Nunan and his wife Joyce of Georgetown, and William Nunan and his wife Theresa of Brownfield, ME. He is also survived by his daughters MariEllen Lazdowski and her husband Thomas of Bartlett, NH and Donna Robbins and her husband Eric of Georgetown also his son-in-law Stanley Dole of Plainfield, NH. Last, he is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his mother and father, Ken is predeceased by his daughter Betty Ann Dole, his grandson Adam Nunan, his two brothers Albert, Jr. and Harold as well as his two sisters Barbara and Evelyn.. Relatives and friends are warmly invited to his visitation on Saturday, April 14th from 11 AM to 1 pm in the Conte - Giamberardino Funeral Home, 14 Pleasant Street, Georgetown. Kenny's Graveside Service will be offered on Saturday afternoon at 1:15 PM in Harmony Cemetery, Georgetown. Like all people that met Mr. Ken Nunan we all learned something from him. He took the time to show me many floriculture & Horticulture trade secrets and I use those skills very often. He has been a guide for so many people and I am proud to say I knew him for so many years. Thank you Ken for all you did for me and my family.
