Lawrence Tighe Obituary

Lawrence W. Bert Tighe, age 92, of Sudbury, died on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at The Commons in Lincoln, MA. He had been in declining health for some time. He is survived by his son Peter of Austin, TX; his son Kevin and companion Deborah Park of Holland, MA; his son Foss and wife Linda Colby and daughters Coriander and Holly of Framingham, MA Bert served in the U. S. navy on an LCI ship in the Pacific. He graduated from Holy Cross College with a degree in history, in 1946, and received a Masters degree in History from Boston College in 1947. He was married to his wife Edna Stiles Tighe for 68 years, until her death in 2015. He taught high school history for 5 years, in Force, Pennsylvania, Sherborn, MA and finally in Wayland, MA. In the early years, Bert took an active interest in Sudbury town affairs, serving on the school committee for 12 years, and taking a pivotal role in the Legislative changes which allowed the towns of Lincoln and Sudbury to hold the Election for The Lincoln Sudbury School committee on the same day region wide. He worked for 10 years for a waterworks supply house in Sudbury, before starting his own company (Ti-SALES, Inc.) in 1963. Bert put his heart and soul into Ti-SALES for 50 years. No detail was too unimportant for him to watch over personally. His son Peter remembers, as a child, drifting off to sleep at midnight, while his father was still working, and waking up at 6:00 A. M. and hearing that he was already back working at his desk in the basement. Bert was very proud of the company he created. He was particularly proud of the emphasis on customer service and prompt shipping of orders, which was his guiding priority. He was a member of the New England waterworks association and the Massachusetts Water works association for more than 60 years. In lieu of sending flowers, the family suggests a donation to Water For People. A private, family only graveside service will take place on the morning of Wednesday, October 18th. Afterwards, both friends and family may gather to share memories of Bert at 11:00 am at the 29 Hudson Road Restaurant in Sudbury. My deepest sympathy to the Tighe Family. Kevin, it was such a pleasure to take Bert to visit Dottie. To sit and listen to those two high school friends talk about Sudbury and Edna and John was such a joy I was hoping to do it again.

Wanted to add my childhood memories of the Tighe Family in Sudbury where I still live. My Dad Ken Ritchie & "Burt" Tighe must have been friends as I often got to play with Peter while the Dads talked about boring stuff. I was so amazed with Peter's ability to find my position on the jungle gym no matter how quiet I tried to be. Always looked up to him as an exemplary upper classman at Lincoln-Sudbury HS and wish to extend my sincerest condolences on his father's passing. Clearly the acorn did not fall far ... Tighe Sales in Sudbury was always a class act just like its founder. Always savor my memories as I pass the house on Old Lancaster Road. May your memories sustain all the family at this sad time. Very best regards from Sudbury,

We only got to visit with Bert a couple of times during he and Edna's visits to Texas to see his son Peter, but enjoyed those times so much. He was a real "old school" gentleman and it was a pleasure to have met him. Condolences to the entire Tighe family and especially our dear friend Peter.

It was an honor to be your Dad's chaplain. He so enjoyed talking about his life, his family and all the places he had gone and things he had done when we perused his scrapbooks. I was able to be with him the day before he passes. He was peaceful and present. I was able to appreciate who he was and to bring comfort in his journey. I could see how proud he was of his sons and to remind him that he would reconnect with his beloved wife. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Blessings, Carole Butler, Care Group Parmenter Hospice
