Elizabeth J. Joseph

Elizabeth J. Betty Joseph, age 81, of Norwell, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2016. Betty was the beloved wife of the late Philip Phil Joseph and the devoted mother of five daughters: Kathleen M. Joseph (Roger Anderson) of South Weymouth, Karen A. Joseph (Robert Pashkowsky) of Norwell, Maureen J. Joseph, PhD (John J. Harland) of Hockessin, DE, Carolyn J. Fredrickson (Alan Fredrickson) of Wolfeboro, NH, and Laura A. Joseph-Dwyer (Paul Dwyer) of Scituate. Cherished Nana of Nicole DiGiorgio, Erik and Anna Fredrickson, Ian and Carly Harland, Matthew Pashkowsky, and Olivia and Grace Dwyer. Loving daughter of the late John and Anne Kate (Breheny) Ballantine. Beloved sister of Anne Marie Nancy OSullivan of Quincy, Eleanor Ballantine, SJC of Quincy, John Jack Ballantine of Virginia, Francis Fran Ballantine and wife Susan of Brewster, MA, and the late Patricia Gallant and her surviving husband, Robert Gallant of Medford. Betty is survived by her supportive sister-in-law, Nancy Joseph, as well as many nieces, and nephews. Betty was a graduate of St. Patricks High School in Roxbury and went on to be an administrative assistant in several different companies. Betty and Phil met on a blind date and married in 1958 and settled shortly thereafter in Norwell. Betty was a home maker while her children were young. She re-entered the work world in the mid-seventies and began her career in banking. After her retirement she enjoyed cruising, traveling, shopping and spending time with her grandchildren. Family and friends will gather to celebrate Betty on Thursday, December 29, 2016 from 3-7 p.m. in McNamara-Sparrell Funeral Home, 30 Central Street (off Rt. 123, near State Police Barracks), Norwell Center, MA. 02061 and again Friday, Dec. 30 at 10 a.m. before processing to St. Helen Church, 383 Washington Street (Rt. 53), Norwell, MA. 02061 for a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Interment Washington Street Cemetery, Norwell. In lieu of flowers, donations to honor Betty may be made to the Pat Roche Hospice Home, c/o Norwell VNA and Hospice, 86 Turkey Hill Road, Hingham, MA. 02043.
