Shirley Ziven Obituary

Shirley R. (Siegel) Ziven, age 90, entered into rest peacefully at her Medfield home on Friday, December 24, 2010. Born in Chicago, IL, on August 1, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Rose Siegel. Shirley was a 1937 graduate of Chicagos Sullivan High School and was employed for several years doing paralegal work. She married Bernard P. Ziven during World War II and moved several times to be near her husband during his service in the Army. They returned to live in Chicago after his discharge. In 1961, the Zivens settled in Appleton, WI, where Shirley enjoyed creating a warm and loving home for her family. She and her husband were later to be snowbirds, splitting their time between Appleton and Sarasota, FL. They retired to Sarasota in 1984, where Shirley remained until moving to Medfield four years ago. A longtime active member of Hadassah, Shirley is remembered for her devotion to her family, fondness for playing Mahjong, and her penchant for crossword puzzles. Predeceased by her husband in 2003, she is survived by her daughter, Hilary S. Ziven and spouse Kate Pittman of Medfield; her son, Richard D. Ziven and spouse Anita of Sarasota, FL; and two granddaughters, Ella Pittman and Jeannie Ziven. Shiva was kept at the Ziven Pittman residence on Sunday and Monday. Burial will be private.
