Gertrude E. Kelly

Gertrude E. Dolly (Sullivan) Kelly, age 96, of Norwood, formerly of Quincy, died peacefully, Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at The Ellis Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Norwood. Dolly was born in Boston and was raised and educated in South Boston. She graduated from the former Girls Latin High School in Dorchester. She had lived in Norwood for five years, previously living in Quincy for forty years and earlier living in Dorchester. She was employed as a bookkeeper for the Blue Cross Blue Shield Company in Boston for more than twenty years. After retirement, Dolly worked as an aide for the Quincy Public School lunch program for ten years She enjoyed bingo, music and sing-a-longs. Dolly was also a homemaker and devoted to her family. Beloved wife of the late James P. Kelly Jr. Devoted mother of James P. Kelly III, Quincy Fire Dept., Retired and his wife June of Norwood, Michael J. Kelly, Norfolk County Sheriffs Dept., Retired and his wife Arlene of Spring Hill, Florida and Paul F. Kelly, Norfolk County Sheriffs Dept., Retired of Quincy. Loving grandmother of nine grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren. Dolly was the last of eight siblings and is survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy on Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 9 a.m. Funeral Mass in Saint John the Baptist Church, 44 School Street, Quincy at 10 oclock. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 - 8 p.m. At the request of the family, interment services at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne will be private.
