John Ruby Obituary

John J. Ruby Jr. of Westwood, passed away Oct. 30, 2013, at the age of 62, reluctantly. Fiercely loyal and infinitely generous, he made one hell of an impact on the world. Best friend and husband of 30 years to Rhonda Ruby. Loving father of Lisa and Suzanne Ruby. Adoring and adored brother of Linda Dingee and her husband, Leland, of Braintree. Son of the late John and Lorraine (Quireyns) Ruby. Dear son-in-law of Ellie and Gene Natanblut, loving brother-in-law of Sharon Natanblut and her husband Mike OGrady. He is the uncle of John, Scott, Jordana, Alana, and Jake, and grand uncle of Cian, Ronan, Samantha, Connor, Eva, Keegan, Braden, MacKenna, and Kincade. John was born and raised in South Boston and graduated from Boston Technical High School. He received his Business Administration degree from Boston University, where as Vice President of the Student Union he led protests against the Vietnam War. He received his law degree from Antioch Law School in Washington D.C. John was a Criminal Trial Attorney and a member of the Massachusetts Bar, the Westwood Democratic Town Committee, and a former member of the Board of Directors for Rosie's Place and The Third Nail. In his early twenties, John was a speech writer for the late Senator Ted Kennedy. For anyone watching, it was clear that John was the tenth man at Fenway last night as his Red Sox clenched game six of the World Series at home for the first time in nearly a century. Relatives and friends were invited to visit with his family Saturday, Nov. 2, from 4 to 8 p.m. , in the Cartwright-Venuti Funeral Home, 845 Washington St., Braintree. In lieu of flowers, his family requests contributions in Johns name to Rosie's Place or The Jimmy Fund. I took care of John at Harrington House in Walpole. I am very saddened to hear of his passing. I will always remember his stories about his life, his travels and his family. He loved people, he loved life. I will never forget his wonderful smile. I will always treasure seeing both of you on your aniversary having dinner, and being included in a toast to both of you. I was a friend of John's for about 10 years as he was a beloved member of our poker group. The games were always more enjoyable when John was there as he kept us in stitches with his endless jokes and stories. I will miss him dearly and am extremely sorry for your loss

We grew up with "Johnny" and he was one nice guy. When we talk about the "old days" Johnny is always mentioned. He was a memeber of the "gang" and will be remembered fondly.

I'm shocked and heartbroken by this news. John was one of a kind. His hugs were smothering, his enthusiastic spirit was infectious and his love was deep. Rubys, you were our first friends in town and we are forever blessed because of that. All our love, thoughts and strength to everyone lucky enough to have had John in their life!
