Fuad Abboud Obituary

Fuad Labib Abboud died peacefully on February 4, 2012 while under the care of those at St. Patricks Manor in Framingham, Massachusetts. Born on January 19, 1920 in Jaffa, Palestine, he emigrated to the United States in March 1947 to attend Michigan State University where he earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and was a member of two honorary academic societies, Pi Mu Epsilon and Eta Kappa Nu. He was prevented from returning home to his family and to his radio repair and sales business in Palestine by events of the times. It was at MSU that he met his future wife, Rosa Will, of Hof/Saale, Germany. They were married in Buffalo, New York in 1952. After earning his B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering at Michigan State University he enrolled as a PhD candidate at Syracuse University. He delayed the completion of his degree for two years to take a position as an assistant professor of electrical engineering at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon. While overseas, Fuad continued to pursue his U.S. citizenship efforts as a conscientious objector, a cause that took four years to complete and in which he was successful. Fuad was a Master Mason, joining the Masons while in Beirut, Lebanon. Fuad was a 50 year Mason and a member of the Saint Matthew's Lodge A.F. & A.M., Andover, MA. He worked for many years as an engineer at Sylvania Electric and General Electric and then owned and operated an electronics franchise in New Bedford, Massachusetts. His beloved wife, Rosa (Will), pre-deceased him in 1977, and he is survived by his children Aida & her husband Thomas Gennis of Wayland, Labeeb and his wife Kristen Abboud of Brookly, NY, Omar and his wife Catherine Abboud of Bronxville, NY, and six grandchildren, Dr. Elisabeth Gennis, George, Andreas and Evan Gennis, and Jeffrey and Michael Abboud. He is also survived by his brother Fawzi Abboud & his wife Nawal, his sister-in-law Naimeh Abboud, his brother-in-law Bernhard Will and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a loving and caring father, grandfather and uncle and was known to all as an intelligent, kind, thoughtful, gracious and generous man, more interested in the welfare of others than his own. His many talents and interests included playing the clarinet, violin and piano, painting and gardening, and classical music and opera, reading particularly world history, which enriched the lives of his children and grandchildren. A true engineer, Fuad rarely met a home project he couldn't tackle and conquer. His daughter is deeply thankful for this talent of his and his devotion to her in this regard. Fuad will be loved and missed by all who knew him. Visiting hours were held on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 from 5-8 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Ave., Wayland, MA. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 for 9:00 am at St. Demetrios Church, 57 Brown Street, Weston, MA. Burial will be private at the family's request. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimers Assoc, 311 Arsenal St, Watertown, MA 02472 or St. Patricks Manor, 863 Central St, Framingham, MA 01701.
