Karen Hegarty Obituary

Karen (Clapp) Hegarty, age 70, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Sunday, September 13, 2015, at her Natick home. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Paul E. Hegarty; her daughter, Kim Hegarty Waters and husband Jack; and her grandson, Kyle Hegarty, all of Natick; two sisters, Deborah Clapp of NY, NY, Meredith Clapp of Amherst, and Timothy Clapp and his wife Jean of Dover; and many loving relatives and friends. Karen Clapp was born to Kenneth and Barbara (Carens) Clapp in Coronado, CA, where her father was stationed as a naval officer during World War II. After the war they returned to the Boston area. Karen graduated from Wellesley High School in 1963 and Lasell College in 1965. She met the love of her life, Paul E. Hegarty, in 1962 when they were working together at Brighams in Wellesley Hills. They were married in 1968. They honeymooned in Maui, and continued their life long love affair entertaining a vast variety of dear friends and family. Karen and Paul were known for their gracious hospitality and wicked senses of humor. Their door was always open and all were welcome. Karen loved working with people and enjoyed careers first at United Airlines and, after taking time off to raise her daughter Kim, at State Street Global Advisors. She made many friends and helped many colleagues over the years. She stayed in close touch with people that she had worked with more than 50 years ago. Karen had a huge capacity for life, love and friendship, and she touched so many lives with her unique combination of wit, sincerity and generosity of spirit. Her strength of character and fierce loyalty and devotion will be remembered by everyone. All of her friends and family are better people for knowing her. A Mass of Christian Burial was Celebrated for Karen in Saint Patricks Church, 44 East Central Street, Natick, on Saturday, September 19th after which she was laid to rest in Saint Patrick Cemetery. Visiting hours were at John Everett & Sons on Friday. Donations in Karens memory may be made to Good Shepherd Community Care, Development Office, 90 Wells Ave, Newton, MA 02459. Paul, Kim, and Kyle We are so sorry for your loss. Karen had a tremendous impact on us and was a joy to be around. Her warmth, generosity, and humor made us feel welcome from day one. We were very lucky to have all of you as neighbors when we were starting our family. I always enjoyed our driveway conversations about our daily lives, and appreciated your advice and funny stories. As Amy said recently, they were the best neighbors we'll ever have. We love and miss you, K.K.

Karen, thank you for being the most warm and welcoming neighbor we could ever have. You helped ease our transition into a new stage of life- the suburbs and then parenthood. No matter what was going on in your life, you always wanted to know about us. Your smile was one of the warmest and welcoming. Your sense of humor was the best. Nobody could end a conversation with you without first smiling from ear to ear and laughing til they cried. I will always remember sitting on your side patio, feeling just as at home as if I'd know you my whole life. Thank you for giving my family so many laughs and making us feel so welcome. I will try to be to others what you have been to us.

Paul, I have never met a couple so in love after so many years. You and Karen showed Dave and me how truly awesome marriage can be. You and Karen showed us love and humor. Thank you. I am sending you so many prayers and so much love.

Kim and Kyle, I loved seeing the way your mom and grandmother adored you. The connection you all had was incredible. My heart is broken for all of you. I know she is so, so proud of you, smiling down from her new job as angel.

I am heartbroken to hear this sad news. Karen was one of a kind and I will miss her beautiful smile, kind words and "Hello Dahhhling" when I saw her around the halls at work. Karen was one of the first people I met when I started at SSGA and she was the type of person that just made you feel good...simply by being in her presence. She just loved her friends ad family and always recommended the best books! She had such a warm way about her that I will simply never forget. Always the one to see the goodness in life and boy was she funny! I'll miss her terribly. My love and prayers go out to Paul, Kim and Kyle. She spoke of you all always...oh so fondly.

Paul, Kim, Jack, Kyle and Clapp Family,
Wow, that smile and that laugh, which usually came with a little poke and no doubt a follow up laugh. Always asked how "you" were doing, are "you" happy, what's new with "you"? Just the best. I know she will be missed by all of you, and all of us lost one of the best. Brave, loyal, witty, loving, we did not have enough time with her. I love you dalllling.

My life has been touched by Karen's life in a significant way. She was an incredibly spiritual, loving, generous, humorous, woman who deeply lover her family. Paul, Kim, Kyle - you loved and cared for her so well honoring all of her wishes, supporting her grace and dignity, respecting her wherever she was with all the changes before you with committed compassion and most of all genuine love. I will miss my weekly visits her. God bless all of you, as well as Alice, Jean and Debra too- her devoted and loving "sitters". May the road rise up to meet you Karen; May the wind always be at your back; May the sun shine warm upon your face; and rains fall soft upon your fields; And until we meet again; May God hold you in the palm of His hand......Good bye dear one......nan moore
