Dawn MASKELL Obituary

MASKELL, Dawn Doreen (nee Barnes)
April 13, 1931 - Waskada, MB
September 23, 2013 - Calgary, AB
Dawn passed away peacefully on Monday, September 23, 2013 at the age of 82 years. Dawn was born on April 13, 1931 in Waskada, Manitoba, the sixth of nine children. She was raised and educated in the Brandon area. In 1951 she married her lifelong friend, Herb, and they relocated to Edmonton, AB. She spent most of the next forty years working as a nurse for Dr. Perreault in family practice. During that time, she and Herb raised their three children, and developed lifelong friendships with many special people who became their extended family. Dawn's greatest joy later in life was spending time with her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Dawn will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by the many people who love her. Heartfelt thank-you's to the staff of the Prince of Peace Manor and the Rosedale Hospice for their skilled, loving care. Dawn is lovingly remembered by her sons Ken (Linda) Maskell of Langdon, AB and Dave (Brenda) Maskell of Edmonton, AB; daughter Shelley (Chris) Williams of Airdrie, AB; brothers Bill and Bob Barnes; sisters Marion Glover and Jean Medd; along with nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Dawn is predeceased by her loving husband Herb; along with sisters Edith, Marge, Mary and Evelyn. A Celebration of Dawn's life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Friday, September 27, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, Provincial Office, Sun Life Place, 710, 10123 - 99 Street, Edmonton, AB T5J 3H1 (Telephone 1-866-412-4222). We lovingly called her Doctor Dawn. Does this need stitches? What do you think this rash is about? Dawn always had the best advice and took time to heal both the physical and emotional wounds. Her kitchen table was a favourite place for building happy memories, over a nice cup of tea. Dawn will be forever cherished and loved.
