5 years after Rudys passing few days go by that he doesnt come to mind. Part of his enjoyment of the Patriots he loved line play, both offensive and defensive. Hed have taken great interest in Trent Brown at left tackle protecting Bradys blind side. By week four hed have become Browns strongest support.

Red Sox win another World Serier and Patriots claim a sixth Lombardi trophy. Hed have been all smiles.
,
Sadly he would have been crushed by the recent passing of his very close friend and colleague Marty Cottreau.

Following sports particularly Boston sports is somewhat less satisfying because I cant call Rudy midgame and ask for this thoughts on what just happened

Of all the people I've worked with over my career at Gillette, Rudy was one of my favorite persons. On the outside he could appear to be a tough no-nonsense guy. When you got to know him, he was a generous caring person who would do anything to help anyone who needed assistance either professionally or personally. He was a man for younger guys like myself to look up to.

My wife also knew and liked Rudy when she worked at Gillette many years ago. We both extend our sincere condolences to his family and share in their sadness.

Thinking of Rudy always brings me to remember how much he tried to show a tough exterior but always showed tremendous compassion and concern, especially when he knew someone was going through tough times. Rudy spent a great deal of time trying to teach me about the work at Gillette but what he taught me the most was about people and myself. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

The memories I'll carry most of Rudy are the trips we'd take to PATRIOT training camp when they trained in Smithfield R.I.

We'd take a vacation day meet at the South Shore Plaza and it was football and laughs all day.

Between practices it would be common for a sports writer (Ron Hobson/Ron Borges) or an assistant coach would wander over while Rudy was formulating his roster for the current season.

But Rudy was never happier than when he was speaking of his real pride and joy his children.

Theresa, Rudy, Karl, David and Gloria my deepest sympathies he will be sorely missed.

I had the great fortune to work for Gillette for second half of Rudy's career, and that was only 30 years compared to his 50+. I was even luckier to have worked with Rudy from my very first day at Gillette in 1979.

Once you met him, it did not take long (about a minute or two) to realize how passionate Rudy was about the company he worked for and the work that he did. If you ever wonder why Gillette became perhaps the best company on earth, you just need to think about a lot of great people dedicated and working together. Rudy exemplifies those people as well as anyone I know.

If you knew him a little longer and you realized how much he loved Boston sports, especially the Patriots, and his country. He's a true Patriot in every sense of the word. And if you knew him even a bit longer, you knew these things were all secondary to his love and dedication to his family and friends.

We have lost a good friend, but we will not ever forget him. We will all be telling and enjoying “Rudy” stories for a long time to come.

My deepest sympathies to the Langner family and to all of his many friends,

Tom Lyden
