Thomas McMahon Obituary

Thomas J. McMahon, age 79 of South Weymouth, formerly of Quincy, on March 15, 2010. Beloved husband of Jeanne (Rogers) McMahon, Loving father of Thomas Joseph McMahon and his wife Elizabeth of South Weymouth (grandson Thomas J. McMahon IV); Daniel McMahon (deceased) and his wife Catherine of South Weymouth (grandson Daniel Joseph McMahon); and Michael D. McMahon and his wife Michelle of Quincy (granddaughter Aubrey M. McMahon). Graduate of Quincy High School where he played football later becoming a Quincy/North Quincy Hall of Fame member. Also played for several semipro football teams including the Quincy Manets. Member of US Naval Reserves then became a pipe fitter at Bethlehem Steel at the Fore River Shipyard. Later spent several years as a mechanical designer for multiple defense contractors at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Retired from Charles T. Main as Chief Mechanical Designer where he spent most of his career. One of the most accomplished weight lifters and handball players in New England, Tom enjoyed spending Saturday afternoons playing football and weight lifting with his three sons. A Prayer Service was held in the McDonald Funeral Home, SO. WEYMOUTH at 809 Main St. (Rt. 18 Opp. So. Sh. Hospital) Friday, March 19, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, So. Weymouth. Visiting hours was on Thursday, March 18, from 4 - 8 p.m. mcdonald-funeral home.com.

I am very sorry to recently learn of Tom's passing. What a great man he was and such a true friend forever to my Dad. I know having recently experienced losing my Dad that it will be very painful and difficult at times. But remember this - he will always be with you. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I have many fond memories of him that will remain with me forever. Our paths diverged many years ago but Tom always remained a powerful influence in my family life as i tried to continue to follow his influence.
