Vincent DiTullio Obituary

Vincent M. DiTullio, died peacefully at the age of 88 surrounded by his family in his hometown of Weymouth on July 29, 2014 only hours after laughing with his children and looking forward to his tee time the next day. Vinny Vincenzo Mario the middle son of Italian immigrants, was born in his family home on July 1, 1926 to Antionette (Nasuti) and Filoteo DiTullio. As a boy, hed accompany his father to buy grapes in the North End and return home to help make the family wine, often cleaning out the mash, a chore completed out of a sense of duty and a strong work ethic that stayed with him throughout his life. After graduating from Weymouth High School, Vinny enlisted in the US Army, trained in Oregon and shipped out for the planned Japanese land invasion during WWII. He later completed his service in Manila. Shortly after his return, Vinny met the love of his life, the late Virginia Jinny Marie Riley, at a local party where her Irish spunk captured his heart forever. They married on April 19, 1950 and embarked upon the creation of their life legacy, a family of ten children, beginning at a small home on Sherwood Road and continuing at the current family home on Front Street. Family was the most important thing to Vinny and Jinny and they hosted numerous family gatherings, Irish cousins parties and Italian cousins parties throughout their 54 year marriage. An accounting graduate of Burdett College, Vinny took over his fathers barbershop in North Weymouth in 1961. Many years later, he sold the family business and worked for the Mass State Lottery, retiring in 1991 as a Marketing Manager. Vinny became an avid golfer after Jinny bought him his first set of clubs for his 40th birthday. He passionately shared the game with brothers Pete, Phil and many cousins, friends and his sons and was a long standing member of the South Shore Country Club. His golf highlights included the Provolone Open, winter trips to the Bahamas, a hole-in-one, a score of 80 at age of 80 and a Myrtle Beach golf week with his sons and son-in-laws. Wintering in Naples, Florida along with his brother Phil and many Weymouth friends, he enjoyed the warm weather, rounds of golf and bocce tournaments as a member of the Royal Woods CC community. Vinny loved spending time with his girls, often taking weekend trips with his daughters and daughter-in-laws to Lake Kanasatka in Moultonborough, N.H. He travelled extensively with Jinny to Bermuda, Europe, Kenya, and celebrated Christmas in Austria and recently completed a bucket list trip to the Grand Canyon. Vinny was the loving father of Vincent and his wife, Cathy of Hanover, Adrienne Albrecht and her husband Kent, of Holbrook, Stephen and his wife, Suzanne of Littleton, Marcia Sikorski and her husband Mark of Hampton, N.H., Maureen Tobin and her husband Jack, of Weymouth, Greg and his wife Nancy, of Marshfield, Nancy Keenan and her husband Robert of Weymouth, John and his wife Barbara of Vienna Va., Joseph and his wife Christine of Plymouth, and Jinny Baker and her husband Dennis of Hanover. Brother of Phillip DiTullio and his wife June of Naples, Fla., and the late Peter DiTullio. Vinny is also lovingly survived by 27 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends were respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Sunday, Aug. 3, from 3 - 7 p.m. at the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, South Weymouth, 809 Main Street (Rte. 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital) and also gathered in the funeral home at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 4, prior to the funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Weymouth at 9:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mass Hospital School Foundation, 3 Randolph Street, Canton, MA 02021. My deepeset sympathy to the DiTulilo family. I had the pleasure of knowing Vinny during my childhood through my parents and their "golf group", and what a great group of people they were. Through BBQs, house parties and even a couple of vacations, I was fortunate to get to know them all. I will always remember both Vinny and Jinny as being exceptionally kind, warm, funny, caring and genuinely attentive...even to a little girl, which I was at the time. How blessed your were to have such a wonderful man in your family and in your lives. May you hold him in your heart forever. God bless.

So sad and So grateful for the precious years of friendship shared with Vinny and Jinny and their beautiful family. How we loved Vinny DiTullio!
Over and over again we were welcomed into his home, his heart, as part of this faithfilled and loving family.
I cannot be sad (except for myself) because he is now in the embrace of his Loving God, and his adored Jinny and so many there, on the other side ,waiting for him with outstretched arms, welcoming him home.
Rest in peace Vinny. You are in our hearts always. Pray for us!

Vinny's smile lit up Wey. Landing. Our families shared faith, music, and Jinny's home made sauce. My memories of the family are rich, and we are better people for knowing the DiTullio family. My one regret - I never played golf with Vinny! Rest in peace dear friend.

It will be said many times by many members of the Vinny fan club, our loss here on earth is heaven's gain. Rarely do we have the privilege of encountering such a gracious and beautiful man as I was lucky enough to do with my adopted Uncle Vinny. No favor to big, just ask, he was there. The Bloomfield family is missing our bocce mentor and just one heck of a nice gentle man. We love you Vinny, our world here in Naples is missing you already. The Ditullio clan has another angel to watch over you. Be at peace Vinny.
