Lysbeth Hopkins Obituary

Lysbeth Hope Hopkins, 98, a former resident of Winchester, died peacefully in her sleep at her home at Kimball Farms, Lenox, Massachusetts, on February 1, 2013. Until the day of her death she was active and healthy. Born in East Orange, New Jersey, on November 19, 1914, she was the daughter of Frederick George and Ola Irene Turkington. She grew up in Port Washington on Long Island, New York, and was married there in 1937 to William McNeal Hopkins. They spent much of their married life in Winchester. While there Lysbeth volunteered at Winchester Hospital and the old Mystic School. She was a member and president of the Enka Society. She was also a member of the Parish of the Epiphany and a president of the Women of Epiphany. After retirement they moved to Derry, New Hampshire, and later to Lenox. Her much-loved husband died in March, 2000. She leaves four children: David and his wife Janet of Sherman, Connecticut; Jonathan and his wife Peggy of Brooklin, Maine; William and his wife Susan of Exton, Pennsylvania, and Libby of Leverett, Massachusetts; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Lysbeth was a bright light. Whether caring for and enjoying family and friends, working for school or church, or joining her husband to savor the Boston Symphony or explore a Greek island, she offered those around her a helping hand, abundant good humor and a warm heart. She was always the best of company. There will be a Memorial Service at The Parish of the Epiphany in Winchester on Saturday, June 29. Notes of remembrance to be shared with the family may be sent c/o David Hopkins, 4 Woods Road, Sherman, Ct. 06784. Donations in her name may be made to Rosie's Place, 889 Harrison Avenue, Boston, Massachusetts, 02118, or online at: www.rosiesplace.org Rosie's Place provides for the needs of indigent women.
