Charles Wood Obituary
Charles Gerald Wood was born January 21, 1927 in Farwell, Michigan and died May 2, 2023 in Loganville, Georgia at the age of 96. He was the son of Alvin Corliss Wood and Elsie Beulah Gallagher Wood of Farwell, and brother to Kendall Wood of Farwell, who have all predeceased him. His Grandparents were founders of Gilmore Church of Christ in Farwell.
He married Eileen Caroline House in 1948 and they celebrated 75 years together on February 27, 2023. Their four children are Barry Wood, Christine (Phil) Cages, Charleen (Lester) Waters, Sally (Tom) Howard. At the time of death, he had 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Listings of grandchildren & great-grandchildren are in Eileen Caroline House Wood obituary.
Gerald chose farming and carpentry for his life's work, being creative and energetic in whatever he did. Farming included working wheat, oat & hay fields plus animals to raise--sheep, cows, horses, and chickens. He loved working with wood and building/remodeling houses. Gerald built four houses for he and & Eileen lived in, two in Michigan (1948 & 2001) and two in Florida (1972 & 1979). They lived 44 years in Clare/Farwell, Michigan, 35 years in Clermont, Florida and 17-18 years in Loganville, Georgia. One of Gerald's great joys was superintending the construction of a church building in Clermont, Florida.
He was part of a resilient generation, living through the 1930's Depression and WWII. Gerald plowed with a mule and then a team of horses, and then a tractor, then saw technology at which he would just shake his head! He enjoyed taking his family for horse/buggy rides in the summer and horse/sleigh rides in the winter.
At various times, Gerald was Sunday School Superintendent, taught a pre-teen Sunday School Class, worked with the teens, was an Elder and served as Chairman of the Board at the Gilmore Church of Christ. He was also a leader in the two churches they attended in Florida.
Charles Gerald Wood was a man of character and dependability, deserving of honor and respect, a man who loved God and his family beyond measure.
