Terwilliger taught government and history at Freeland High School from 1967 to 1998, when he retired from teaching. He continued, however, to coach golf, volleyball, basketball, track and field and Freeland High School, and was inducted in the Michigan High School Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1998.
