Thomas "Tom" Gaylord Whitefoot, age 71 of Lake, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
Thomas was born March 12, 1954 in Detroit, Michigan the son of Katherine (Barnhouse) Whitefoot and Kenneth Whitefoot. Tom had resided in Lake since 1998, moving from Farwell. Tom was united in marriage to the former Pamela Pitt on October 10, 1998, in Clare.
Tom dedicated over twenty-five years in the oil industry as a driller and retired from Ferrellgas after twenty-two years in the propane industry as a propane transporter. Tom enjoyed many outdoor activities, including: hunting, fishing, boating, playing volleyball and softball, gardening and having family barbecues. He also enjoyed spending time visiting various casinos, playing cards, watching the Weather Channel and reporting the weather to his family, monitoring emergency services on his scanner, and listening to 70's rock, especially channel 26 on Sirius XM. One of Tom's favorite pastimes was making memories with his loved ones. His family fondly remembers him being Santa Claus every year on Christmas morning, watching storms together and taking various camping trips. In addition, Tom was passionate about helping others. He was often found in the middle of many projects lending a hand, or helping those in need. He would even deliver iced water to local firefighters on the scene of a fire. Tom was loved by many and will be remembered for his humor, being a loving protector, and his love for family and friends.
Surviving Tom is his loving wife of twenty-seven years, Mrs. Pamela Whitefoot of Lake; his two daughters, Rebecca Cook and husband Bret of Clare and Melissa Shannon and husband Jay of Mt. Pleasant; his son, Tully Lafferty and wife Karissa of Midland; four grandchildren, Olivia Cook, Ethan Cook, Mason Shannon, and Wesley Shannon; one brother, Kenneth Whitefoot and Nora Hretz of Howell; plus many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services honoring Tom will be held Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. from Clark-Campbell Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service, 408 West Main Street, Farwell, with Pastor Connie Bongard officiating. Visitation will take place on Monday, October 20, 2025, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Clark-Campbell Funeral Chapel and will resume on Tuesday, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Burial and graveside services will be held at Garfield Township Cemetery, Lake. Luncheon will immediately follow graveside services at Clark-Campbell Funeral Chapel.
