On 22nd of May, Sylvanus Ordean Twete passed away peacefully with family in Fullerton, California, after suffering from pneumonia. Sylvanus was born in Grenora in 1932 and raised at the Twete family farm NE of town. He attended school in Grenora and graduated from Grenora high school in 1950. Sylvanus then enlisted in the Air Force and served in the Korean war, spending 2 of those years in Okinawa, Japan. Moving to Southern California after leaving the Service in 1956, Sylvanus began work in the steel forging business where he built a long career as a Sales Estimator.
Soon after moving to California, Sylvanus met and married Bjorg Bommen, who was also Norwegian and also from Grenora. Together, Sylvanus and Bjorg raised 3 sons and built a great life together in Brea, California. Bjorg and Sylvanus enjoyed many years of square dancing, bowling, camping and traveling together. This included many trips to visit family and with family back to their roots in Grenora where they had many relatives and friends to share.
Sylvanus took up jogging in his 40's and continued to run 5 miles daily until his 60's. He loved working with his hands and in retirement he took up and became very good at stained glass work. In retirement, Sylvanus greatly enjoyed horseshoes and time on the putting green. He was also an avid Cribbage player. One of his favorite pastimes was working and helping in the community woodshop. He also took up making hooked rugs, even using his own custom-made wooden hooks. Sylvanus made over 300 rugs over the years in retirement, most being donated to an annual auction fundraiser in Grenora.
Sylvanus' wife of 60 years, Bjorg, passed away in 2016. Sylvanus is survived by 2 sisters, 3 sons, 2 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
