Lynne Stevens Obituary

"There is a crack, a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in". L. Cohen
It is also how the light can leave. Lynne Stevens, at 70 years of age, found that thin spot in the veil on December 11, 2015 and slipped towards the light. She was on vacation in Playa Grande, Costa Rica with a group of friends when she was pulled into a rip ride and drowned. Lynne, the daughter of Clarence and Alice Stevens, was born in Berkeley on October 2, 1945. She is survived by a younger brother Earl Stevens of Willits. She kept many friends from her school days, graduating Berkeley High School in 1962, with many lifelong connections.
Lynne had one life desire and that was to have a daughter. Sabrina survives her mother, living and working with children in Willits. Lynne was a part of the back to the land movement in the 70's, partnering and building an off-the-grid cabin in Mendocino County.
Reinventing herself in the early 90's she moved to Sonoma County to find more work and service opportunities. She was a survivor and thriver, working several human service jobs before retiring in 2010 from Sonoma County Public Health.
She will be missed by the many friends in and out of her spiritual community, friends who were drawn to her kindness, gentle contemplative spirit, compassion for others with different struggles and her groundedness. She will be missed but live on in our hearts.
She leaves her life partner, Donna Jones, her family and extended family in Sebastopol, California where she lived her last 15 years.
Her memorial will be at the Community Church of Sebastopol on January 30, 2016 at 2 p.m. Come and help us honor and celebrate Lynne and a life worth living.

I met Lynne when we happened to have side-by-side cubicles in the new 5th Street Public Health building. I will always cherish that chance meeting. Lynne had a heart full of love for her fellow travelers on Earth. She never missed an opportunity to gift people with empathy, which resulted in an uplifting of spirit. Knowing her was a joy. I am sad to see her pass on, but I will continue to be a better person for having known her. RIP, Lynne.
