Miroslawa Corra Obituary

Miroslawa "Anna" Corra
Miroslawa "Anna" Corra of Wilton passed away peacefully on November 1, 2024 at her home surrounded by her loving family and caretakers. Anna was born in Sprwtawa, Poland on March 19, 1961 to Jan and the late Melania (Lozyniak) Hlywa. She was 63 years old at the time of her passing.
Anna is survived by her husband, Lawrence Corra, her daughter, Alex Corra, and daughter-in-law, Ariel Sandrini, her father, Jan Hlywa, her brother, Jerry Hollyway, nieces, Alanna Marwyn and Erica Hollyway, and many friends who she considered to be family. She was predeceased by her mother, Melania Hlywa, mother-in-law, Giulia Corra, and father-in-law, Renzo Corra.
She immigrated to the US as a young child in 1963 with her brother and parents. She grew up in Stamford, CT, and graduated from Syracuse University in 1983 under the Carrier Dome. She was an avid Syracuse basketball fan and watched every game she could. She was employed by the Town of Wilton for the past 18 years, and loved working for the town where she raised her family.
Anna was the epitome of a matriarch. She led her family fearlessly through whatever storm they faced. She was courageous, resilient, and fiercely protective of those she held close. She had an uncanny ability to talk to people and make them feel at ease. She had a great sense of humor and a quick wit, making other people laugh no matter the circumstance.
It was of the utmost importance to Anna to pass along meaningful family traditions and wisdom, many of them originating from her Lemko heritage, which she was so proud of - making colorful Pysanky every Spring to ward off evil, and all of the family recipes including her delicious pyrohy and keselytchia. She always wanted her tribe to be together, and went out of her way to make sure everyone was included.
Anna loved animals. She spoke frequently about the pets she had growing up, and, as an adult, her dog, Lou, was considered part of the family. She loved visits with her grand-dog, Faith, and grand-cat, Pugsley, until the end of her life. She also loved flea markets, always on the hunt for a new oil lamp to add to her collection, and scoping out new restaurants to try with her family. She loved to travel, even taking a semester in college to study in London.
If you knew Anna, you know how special she was. She was the type of person who left her mark on everyone she met, and she will be missed by many.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 15th from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. with a Panahita service at 7 p.m. at Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Avenue, Stamford, CT. Prayer services will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 16th at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery, 124 Rock Rimmon Road, Stamford, CT.

My deepest condolences to Anna´s family and friends. I was a floormate of Anna´s during our freshman year at Syracuse University. I remember her as a very caring, sweet, intelligent, and faith-filled girl. She had a great sense of humor but unlike some of us, she also had her feet solidly on the ground. We lost touch after our sophomore year, but Facebook enabled us to connect again 10 years ago. In January she sent a message to a group of us from our freshman dorm. Other than Anna and her roommate Maryalice, I hadn´t been in touch with any of the others from our freshman floor. Anna connected us, and we had such a fantastic time, sharing memories and laughing with each other for the first time in 45 years. I especially loved Anna´s reactions to some of the old photos. I can´t share them here! We messaged about her family heritage, which I knew nothing about, and I told her I´d love to talk some time to learn more. That time never came. It always seems like we have forever, but we don´t. A week before she died, she sent me a recipe for Irish Bacon Cabbage and Potato Soup. She was always thinking about others. I almost reached out but got busy. Again, I thought we had plenty of time, and I´d reach out over the holidays. All lessons learned. Anna and her family are in my prayers at this difficult time. Eternal rest grant unto Anna, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. Rest in peace, sweet friend.
