Christopher Anderson Obituary

Christopher Cook Anderson of Austin, 57, died March 28 two weeks after a lung cancer diagnosis. He passed away peacefully, enveloped by love.

Chris loved the Lord, the Texas Longhorns, coffee and Izzy the cat. A committed Christian, he illustrated dozens of collections of his Biblically-based beliefs.

Wimberley summers meant swimming, floating, and fishing Cypress Creek with his brother, Dee, and other creek kids. After months of rope swinging, rusty nails, fish hooks and fire crackers, the ambulance driver (a.k.a. Mom), quipped that San Marcos ER staff were surely relieved when school started.

In 1983 Chris graduated from Memorial High School in West Houston. He ran track and played football. The Anderson boys were among Houston's earliest youth ice hockey players. Dad, educated in Canada, was immediately drafted as coach.

Dedicated Boy Scouts, the brothers and buddies from lively Troop 43 followed Captain Anderson's tracks on ten-day backpacking expeditions in Colorado. The Anderson family regularly skied and backpacked.

A passionate drummer, Chris spun Christian artists Twila Paris and Amy Grant alongside Green Day and the Rolling Stones.

For most of his adult life, Chris successfully managed a serious medical condition. Despite the challenges, neighbors and friends recall Chris most for his optimism and consistently pleasant disposition

Christopher is survived by father Peter DeWitt Anderson of Wimberley, siblings Allison and Dee (Leah) and nephew Carter Anderson, niece Kaitlyn (Nathan) Esbenshade. Mother Rita Cook Anderson passed away in July.

Other relatives are aunt Susan Cook Eaker (John), cousins David Eaker and Meredith Eaker Yeagens (Eddie).

Memorial Service is Saturday, April 9, 2 p.m., at Wimberley's St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 6000 FM 3237.

Those wishing to honor Chris are invited to make memorial donations to the Mary Lee Foundation, which Chris called home for the last 18 years or The Gideons International.
