Evangeline Bondurant Obituary

Evangeline Ford Bondurant, known affectionately as "Cissy" by everyone, was born on July 12, 1938, to Dr. Hamilton Faith Ford and Dr. Evangeline Dean Ford in Galveston, Texas. Cissy is survived by Dr. WW Bondurant III and her children, Laura Elizabeth Bondurant and Charles Hamilton Bondurant. She was the eldest of three intelligent, powerful, and beautiful women and the last surviving member of her family. She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters Laura Ford, and Faith Ford Biggs.

Cissy grew up in La Marque, Texas, and attended La Marque High School where she excelled in her studies. She went on to the University of Texas, where she earned a degree in Biology. Thereafter, she attained a Master's in Neuroanatomy at UTMB Galveston. While at University of Texas at Austin, she was an active member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority.

While stationed in Germany, she taught English to enlisted men at the United States military school. It was in Germany that she developed her love of teaching and travel.

While raising her family in Galveston, Texas, Cissy taught literacy at Galveston Community College through the Junior League, supported animal welfare at the Galveston Island Humane Society, and contributed to the Rosenberg library. She was also a dedicated member of the Pirate Investment Club.

Through her decades of unwavering service, Cissy influenced hundreds of people, and the impact of her work continues to be felt by their descendants to this day.

Cissy spent countless hours with her daughter riding horses and showing them on weekends. She also spent significant time with her son on band trips as he played the saxophone in the high school band. Cissy had many interests, including travel (Maine for lobster!), tennis, horseback riding, bridge, mahjong, and good food. Her greatest passion was her love of animals and service to those in need. Her passion was fierce and steadfast. She adored riding her horses and taking care of dogs and cats.

After moving to Wimberley in 2007, Cissy found a wonderful network of friends. She spent the remainder of her years traveling, playing bridge, and enjoying time with her friends. Even when she moved, she continued her dedication to animal welfare by endowing the WAG animal shelter. Cissy also donated to the building fund for the Wimberley library.

Cissy's Celebration of Life will be held at Chapel in the Hills, Wimberley, TX, on February 15th at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please honor Cissy's life by contributing to the Forgotten Dogs of the Fifth Ward, Houston, Texas or WAG (Wimberley Adoption Group) in Wimberley, TX.
