Wayne Harvey Obituary

Wayne Duncan "Corky" Harvey, age 76, passed away January 26, 2022 at his home in Wimberley, Texas. Corky was born and raised in Beaumont, Texas. He graduated from Helix High School, La Mesa, California, 1964. Corky served in the United States Coast Guard aboard the USCGC Eastwind, on assignment to Antarctica. After the service he attended Morris of Houston Barber College, earned his Barber license, and began to cut hair.

In the early '80s, he opened his own shop in Wimberley, Corky's Plaza Barber Shop. He cut men and women's hair there for thirty years. The Barber Shop was not only a great place to get a haircut, it was a place of camaraderie, laughter, and good old-fashioned friendship. Corky had the natural talent and personality not only to be a great barber, but to converse with anyone, about anything. No doubt, many fishing stories were told, many fishing stories were stretched. In fact, customers were often not surprised when Corky hung his "Gone Fishing, Catch Ya' Later" sign.

Those closest to him, know also of his crusty exterior. Despite his cutting remarks and stubbornness, there is actual evidence that he was a loving, giving and caring person. That evidence is the deep sorrow and pain that his family feels from his passing.

Corky is preceded in death by his parents A.B. and Margaret Harvey, and son Stephen Harvey.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marty Harvey, daughter Julia Harvey and grandchildren Ethan and Ava Carrell.

Special thanks and appreciation to Blue Bonnet Palliative Care and Legends Funeral Home.
