Elizabeth Turner Obituary

Elizabeth Suzanne Turner passed away early Monday morning Oct 13, 2025 peacefully at home with family by her side.
Most knew her as Susie. Born in her family home July 16, 1937 @ 6:45 a.m. Welcoming their daughter were Dwight M. Shaffer & Ollie May Howell on 803 S. 21st St in Newcastle, Indiana. She was a birth-right child to the Friends church in Newcastle. So her membership to the Winchester Friends church was a simple choice. In 1948 the family moved to Modoc, IN on what we'd call the 80-acre family farm.
Susie was a graduate of Union High School where she also meets a red-headed classmate, becoming Queen of the senior prom and married my father Walter E. Smith on Feb. 25, 1956. She would eventually go on to meet and marry Robert L. Turner in 1986.
Susie has made a beautiful home and family over the years with Robert as they enjoyed life together. They both enjoyed working in their day-to-day jobs. Susie, having many talents, started her career life in Hagerstown with a company called the Perfect Circle. In the 1960's she became a dental assistant for Dr. Williams in Winchester, raising her oral knowledge then working with an Oral surgeon Dr. Blake in Muncie. Then needing to earn a better income and insurance for her family she began her career working at Anchor Hocking Glass. She would retire from Anchor and begin her journey with connecting to the community of Winchester by first working with what she called the "Val Gals." This small department store (Val's) on the east side of Winchester was her opportunity to get involved by being the department head overseeing the shoe department. This business would close, and mom changed yet again but staying involved in the community with floral designs working with, "All About Flowers." Mom always gave every job all she had and enjoyed the benefit of the friendships that would develop. It was always amazing to travel with her, no matter where or how far she always ran into someone she had known for many years.
She is proceeded in death by her parents and one brother Dale M. Shaffer of Muncie, IN. Her Loving husband of 39yrs Robert L. Turner.
Susie is survived by One brother George F. Shaffer and Family; Daughter Elizabeth A. Shaw & Jerry her husband from Farmland, IN and their children; Olivia M. Shaw of Phoenix, AZ; Amber R. Shaw of Indianapolis, IN; Son Timothy S. Smith and Wife Jill from Indianapolis, IN; Children Micah D. Ramirez of Oklahoma City and Bethany A. Higgins & husband Blake from Cleveland Oklahoma and their children, mom's great-grandchildren Leonardo, Charlotte and Eyvind.
Viewing will be on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2025, starting at 11 a.m. and ending at 1 p.m. Service will begin at 1 p.m. with interment immediately following at Fountain Park Cemetery Winchester IN. The Family would like to thank Pine Knoll & Keystone Hospice of Indianapolis and staff for their loving care of our mother.
Walker Funeral Home in Winchester, Indiana is entrusted with the arrangements. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.walkerswinchester.com.

Yesterday

I met Susie when I was 14 years old, a sophomore in high school having just started my first part-time job at Vals. We instantly had a connection and enjoyed teasing each other often. Susie remained a dear friend long after our time at Vals, thirty years of friendship I will forever cherish. I will miss her smile, her laugh and her grandmotherly perspective on life. Love you Susie Q
